i have a 97 silverado 4x4 extended cab short bed with 100k. i purchased the truck a little over two months ago. after driving the truck for a little over 2 weeks i heard a clunking sound. i took off the drive shaft and had noticed that the uv joints in the rear shaft needed replaced. i replaced the bearings and put the shaft on and now notice a new noise. the noise is only made when the truck is in first gear, reverse or overdrive. it sounds like possibly a spun bearing or something. kind of like worn out brakes, metal on metal grinding. trans still shifts fine. anyone have any idea? thanks much.

Im not a mechanic but i do work on my own trucks as well as my friend's trucks. My friend's truck was making a similiar noise like that and it was the spider gears in his rear-end. i don't know if that helps or not. I could be totally wrong.
