Switching To Synthetic Oil

At what point (mileage) are you guys switching over to synthetic? Some guy said he doesn't do it until around 7,500, others have said at the first oil change. Looking for your input...

I switched mine, 2007 2500HD 6.0, at 500 miles.

I don't believe new engines need the controlled wear that older ones needed. There are cars that coem from the factory with synthetic oil. I doubt GM would put synthetic oil in a new corvette if it did any damage.

That was my thinking as well, but I'm no expert, hence the question. My intention was to switch to synthetic at 1,000 unless I learned some reason not to.

I have a GM car that came with it new and I changed my current truck to synthetic at 169,000 miles...right after I bought it...no problems on either one.

Moral of the story is change whenever you want to, it truely makes no difference.

The last four vechiles I have owned, all had the switch at 500 miles. All ran great.

Ran Durablend from after the 2nd oil change (4,000 miles) then decided to change everything at once when I made the decision to go full synthetic. Did the full synthetic change at 40,000 and changed everything. The only thing left as stock fluid is the power steering pump and that is next. Truck has Mobil1 all through it now. Wife's 2007 4Runner came factory with synthetic (Toyota brand) but will make the change to Mobil1 on her next oil change (the first oil change was free )
