Need A Hitch?

Recommended Posts

Going to be pulling a 6500lb travel trailer behind my 2001 Yukon XL.

Anybody have a setup similiar or recommend one hitch over another?

No badge bashing just looking for info on either class 3 or 4 hitch(thinking I'm needing class 4)

Ease of installation, price, durability....

I'd think a weight distributing hich would be a must for something that heavy. I'd probably go talk to your local RV dealer and ask what they have had good luck with.

Well im just going by popularity of what i see and know other people and myself use. I see some Reese hitches, though not as many as Hidden Hitch. Havent installed either in awhile, but from what I remember, they are very similar. I dont think you'll be dissapointed if you go with either of those. I dont think my uncles yukon is wired for a traler, so you may or may not have to do that as well. If you do have to do all that yet and are looking for a brake controller, the Prodigy is pretty poular and seems to be one of the best, though a Voyager will do the job and is about half the price. Just something to think about.

As for weight distribution bars I'm covered.

Just seeing what most people have or enjoy...Reese, Drawtite, Pullrite...or any other one I'm missing

I'm looking only for the 2-2.5 " receiver to mount to my truck.

Thanks for the tip on the Voyager, will look into that!

Yes, I have the basic tow package with the tow/haul mode and the 7pin coonector is zip tied in the back

does your Yukon already have the tow package? If not, you may want to think about adding a trans cooler and an engine oil cooler.

Putnam hitches seem to have a pretty good rep. Check out their class IV

You may also want to look into getting a weight distributing/sway control setup like the equal-i-zer

EDIT: I was typing this reply when you answered the other questions....sorry

Diabs, I would strongly recommend the Putnam XDR Class V hitch. It is a bulldog of a receiver and you will get absolutely no flex with it. I removed my OE "flex reciever" and replaced mine and was then able to get proper weight distribution from my Equal i zer WD hitch.

Let me also recommend a set of Airlift Air bags, the best money you will spend as far as adding stablity to your rig.

Also, if you did not order a stacked plate designed cooler, I would highly recommend you do so. They are much more effiecient than the old Tube and Fin style.

I have some really good pics of my cooler installed. If you plan to install it yourself, PM me your e mail address and I will send these pics to you.

Putnam XDR +1

- can't beat if for price vs. value
