Bed Payload

What is the payload in a bed of a 2001 Silverado Z71? My dad told me I couldn't haul 1600lbs of compost yesterday, but I did it anyways. I know 1600lbs isn't that much, but I just got cocky about my truck and wanted to show off.

Are you asking what the legal payload is, or what the truck will actually haul? These are 2 very different things.

Both. LOL.

From what I've found off the Chevy site, my 2006 RCLB 4x4 is rated at 1766lbs. A 2006 ECSB 4x4 is rated at 1575lbs. I'd guess a 2001 to be somewhat similar...maybe a bit less.

RATED payload includes driver, passengers, and anything else you are carrying in the truck (even that pack of gum under the seat).

Many of us have carried well over the rated amount of weight. The GM recommended load capacity is somewhat conservative... probably to keep them out of lawsuits. Make sure you air up to max sidewall rated pressure if you are gonna push it.

If you are careful and wary of the load you can haul quite a bit safely.

Thank you. I guess I was at my limit then. It was squatting pretty low, but nothing dangerous for my tires or truck. I thought it actually looked good.

Take the GVRW (on my truck it's 6408, it'll say on the drivers door), then go to a weigh station, weigh the truck, then subtract that weight from the GVRW. :dunno:
