okay all i`ve just installed a K&N Cold Air Intake on my truck went from 17.5 to 19.0 mpg

The Big question is do i get a GM Cat-Back exhaust system or not now i`m not looking for performance as far as speed or torque allready did that on my other truck for this truck this i just want GAS MILEAGE and keep the quiteness inside yep guess i`m getting old.. if i do will i get better then the 19 mpg that i`m allready getting since thats all i`m looking for and keep the $750 in my pocket and keep my wife happy...........

hey and get this i went to the GM Dealership where i bought the silverado and talked to the service manager about if it would void my warrentys out if i went to a K&N Cold Air Intake he said YES you would but then took my phone number and said he would look into the K&N and the warrenty issues with GM he called me back and said he called GM warrenty area and was told in the beginning of 2008 GM would not void any warrentys if you put on after market products , due to me showing him it a rulling in federal court that it was illegal for any dealership here in the U.S to void out any warrentys ( sent to me from K&N) if buyers put on after market products . he fax this into GM so GM will not void anything but if it is proven that the aftermaket product caused the failure , then you will have to pay to have your truck fixed not covered by warrentys. so K&N told me if anything like this comes up Make them prove it was K&N that caused the failure in which K&N will go with you to fight GM .. i dont know about you but i dont know many aftermarket manufactures that will go to bat for you this is the reason why i went with K&N )

I had exhaust in my ranger and I really didn't see any improvements in mpg, now with the new silverado i'm faced with the same question you got. Personally I think i'm just going to leave it stock for now since its a nice and quiet ride, with exhaust not so much. I think its personal preference

On the exhaust issue. I was told that a engine is like a big air pump. If you are letting more air and not out you will not gain any MPG. Your bottle neck is at your exhaust. So based on the theory it should help on your gas millage but I do not know how much. I sure some one who did these mods will will know for a fact.

Is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? Are you sure you didn't start driving different after you installed the K&N. I have installed a K&N on my 01 truck and put a AIRAID system on the 06 and have not seen a difference in mileage.

How many miles have you driven since the install? Color me skeptical but I've never heard of that much of an increase simply due to a CAI. Most people will admit that it's mostly just for under the hood looks. :M16:

Well I dont think any exhaust, even direct flow mufflers, could improve the mileage, but since you have a stronger induction, it would probably be a good idea to upgrade exhaust to a more free flowing setup to match the pressure and smooth out the system. Get a Magnaflow 22" muffler, or look into Corsa, might get 0.5mpg improvment

nahhh no big deal i would be skeptical too buy its true i`ve driven 200 miles so far since putting the K&N Cold Air Intake on .. hell before i put the cold air intake on all i had was just the K&N filter and thats what got me to 17.5 from 15.3 one huge reason why i went to K&N thay work :M16:

My CAI hasn't given me 1/10 of a MGP gain...don't care, I love it!

The GMPP exhaust is still a week out (just checked with my dealer), and it won't give me any mileage gains either...don't care, I am sure I will love that too! I like the sounds and the aesthetics of both, and when my Nelson PCM arrives (crossing my fingers on that one) then perhaps the intake/exhaust will mean something more.

If you are looking for gains with one or the other, don't do it.

I have bought so many of these systems for my other trucks, and they just don't do what is advertised, you want them for "cool factor" if you have a bone stock engine...I know that is why I bought them, and I am at peace with it :M16:
