The "break-in" Oil Change - 607 Miles

Okay, so as promised I took the oil sample and sent it off to Polaris Industries. I did this today. I am not starting a oil change battle here, I am just doing what we had discussed, so I can share the results.

As luck would have it, OnStar emailed me my oil life estimates, and it was going to be due at 1900 miles. So the 10,000 mile oil change was out of the question by using the OLM. She has a fresh fill of Valvoline 5w30 coursing through a Delco PF48. I will re-post when Polaris sends back the results.

Yea,1900 miles for your first oil change according to the OLM?!?

I change mine for the first time around 1500 miles just to get all the "crap" out of a new engine,But the OLM telling you to change it at 1900 miles just sounds crazy

Yea,Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause the OLM to want you to change oil at 1900 miles.

I believe ambient air temp is one of the criteria used in determining the oil life. Severe cold might just wreak havoc on oil. The results should be interesting to look at.

 

Even thought I have already changed the oil in my truck, I left the DIC alone to see when it would indicate oil change needed. At 5600 miles, it still read 42% remaining.

Yea,I've always done that with my last three trucks,Always comes up to change it around the 7,500 mile mark.

I still change it every 3,000 miles though.

My personal truck 2004 & 3 of my service trucks 2000,01 & 03 are always stored in heated garages and none have ever had the OLM go on before 4800mi in the winter along with the fuel mileage is never lower than 16-17 mpg here in northern Michigan. Temp right now is a balmy +10F & got to -17F last night. Cold weather has a profound outcome on oil life & fuel economy.
