Another Exhaust Question

Alright guys, i need some help. I am looking for an exhaust system, just muffler. I have a guy that will do custom piping so i just need a muffler.... OK, the problem is this. I was going to do flowmaster, but too many reviews of lost low-end torque with flowmaster and switching to magnaflow, borla, etc. and getting low-end regains has taken the flowmaster choice out. BUT i want the Flowmaster loud as hell sound without losing low-end like these reviews talk about. I've researched several mufflers, but can't quite find one that is loud and has single in/dual out....mainly the bullets.

So basically, i want a loud as hell muffler w/out the loss of low-end and a single in/dual out setup. And correct me if i'm wrong about the loss of low-end with flowmaster. THANKS!!!!!

Running no muffler at all is good for these truck actually, & loud.

Yes some Flowmaster setups will rob you, BUT, take that word some into consideration. Most people will install it themselves or have a bad shop so it. Or they will get a muffler that is loaded with little chamber/baffles. My true dual Super 44 setup has not suffered my low end at all noticeably, & my MPG went from 12.7 ( before install ) to 12.4 ( after install ) to 12.6 ( after broken in with 1,000+ miles ). The Super 44 is the best Flowmaster muffler to buy, because not only can it be the loudest, & deepest sounding at the same time, it is the most direct flowing muffler they have made. & heres some proof to back that up

& like I said, with the Super 44 you get the deep wicked evil tone, & monsterous angry loud rev, so how can you go wrong

I'm getting a super44 welded into my stock system. Will be a nice sleeper setup

You're going to lose a bit of low-end torque in exchange for high-end HP with ANY free flowing exhaust system. But if you get it tuned, it's not a big deal, since you'll be getting more low and high-end power than you ever had before.

Any of those mufflers can be loud. Just get the shortest/smallest muffler you can get your hands on. But keep in mind "louder" is always "better." You'll normally end up with lots of drone, raspy sounding exhaust, unwanted vibrations, etc. Unless that stuff doesn't both you....

Or, just get a Corsa.

Thanks fellas. Thats basically what i've been reading and then some. I've been looking at some Cherry Bombs for a louder approach to things while i waited for some replies. And now this kinda wraps it up from what omegafiler said about the shorter mufflers causing the most chaos which is EXACTLY where i want to be!!! And one more thing... am i right in saying that the volant will help out with top-end torque/HP a litttle bit?? because according to some dynos i came across, you lose most of your steam with the Cherry Bombs in the higher RPM's. You GAIN @ 10lbs of tq with them down low. but anyway having the volant will get that back and maybe a little right? Thanks

If smallest mufflers what you want, check out the Flowmaster 10 series & Cherrybomb Extreme, the smallest, & loudest chamber mufflers out there. ( the 10 series sounds a bit better to me personally )

yep, they have been disturbing the peace since the 60s. As for the low end gain for the CAI, I would imagine so, Volant is a good intake, along with GMs intake, True Force, & Outlaw. Cant go wrong either way. Sure would love to hear this setup once you get it all.

Hey Mo Fugga....cehck out Flo-Pro exhaust. Darkanion has a flo-pro muffler on his and it sounds very nice. From what my exhaust guy told me flo-pro has been proven to increase low end more so than the others. They have a TON of different mufflers to choose from and are cheaper than Flowmaster. I'm getting one installed on mine next weekend.

So i talked to my exhaust guy today and he said he has done a few single chamber mufflers on trucks (mainly flowmaster 10) and says in his opinion they sonded like horses**t and he doesn't recommend them. He strongly reccomended flowmaster's deeper toned mufflers on tucks rather than the raspy higher toned single chambers. So i'll look at the flo-pro and whatever else. Thanks y'all for the info.

Once again i called my man about the flo-pro and got an immediate response of "no don't do it. They're trash." he said they're poorly built and has had only bad experiences with them. Its lookin like a flowmaster will be goin on.

Did you look into a setup with no muffler? As we call them straight pipes. I know this would provide even less restriction than any muffler and give you more noise, but i dont know about torque loss. I have a true dual 50 series flowmasters on my 2001 6.0L and am considering removing them to increase the sound but if i can get better performance out of a Super 44 than no muffler at all i may go that way.

Well first off, is this an exhaust guy a friend of your, or a trust worthy person? Very rarely will they deny what the customer wants. The Extreme is ok sounding, I like the 10 series more, but they are decent mufflers, they are just straight pipe loud & give a tone at lower rpm. Theres a Dodge on youtube with the Extreme, & if that thing can sound good with it then a GM most certainly should
