I note that both the Hypertech and the Preditor have NO provision to

adjust any functions of the 6 speed auto. trans.

The engine yes.....tranny NO !!!!!!!!!!!!

Curious, but what does the wife have to do with the custom tune?

Besides, it may be expensive, but she can be tuned out too. :shakehead:

I received a Diablosport Predator U7194 on Thur, sent off for an RMA to send it back yesterday. Tuner was DOA!! Wouldn't power up, checked all of my fuses in the truck & talked to their tech support, they said to return it to the vendor. Was also irritated with the manual that came with it, a generic 7 page booklet. Had to go to their website to find the "real" user manual yesterday before I called them. :shakehead::fume: I'm getting a refund, I'll probably go with a Hypertech if I decide to try another tuner, had one for my 05 Duramax LLY & had no issues with it or their tech support..

Any one ever get a programmer ? I am looking at the hypertech, i sent a email to their tech dept and he didnt answer any of my questions and sent me a link to their webiste and dyno chart. That was were i had to go to get their email. I also looked at the EDge unit because their unit has the cool display but the tech people were not very helpfull either. I like that you can tow with the hypertech with out changing settings. Thanks Kevin

I have DiabloSport Predator and tow without making any changes. I like the forums Diablo has, you can get LOTS of questions answered there. Lots of engine adjustability, unfortunately not tranny adjustments for the NBS.

Don't waste your money on a handheld. Get a custom tune - it costs more, but you get more and what you want, plus you can get the trans programmed, which must be done on the truck.

Costs more? How do you figure? Justin (Blackbear) charges $200 for his tunes. Try getting a handheld for that.

I had my truck dynoed and the engine and trans tuned accordingly. My tuner is local so if the dealer overwrites my tune with an "upgrade", I can go and have my tune reinstalled. If I want some more tweaking done, I just set up an appointment and he takes care of me. I don't have to mail my computer to the tuner or wait for a replacement then ship it back.

On my 04 Silverado I had a Westers tune which didn't really make a difference other than calibrating my speedo and removing my speed limiter. I probably could have done more, but the shipping costs would have broke me. My local guy has many performance connections including Carrol Shelby. Maybe I paid too much for mine, but I'm content with what I got and if you are with yours, great. :dunno:

No need to get defensive. I am on your side when it comes to custom tunes vs handhelds. I was simply making a point that even a $200 mail order tune will far outperform any handheld.

Oh, and the days of mailing modules back and forth are almost gone. EFI Live and HP Tuners are coming out with handhelds that can load tunes received via e-mail, store stock tunes, do crank relearns, log engine performance, etc.

No offence taken.

I haven't kept up with the new programs and programmers from EFI Live or HP Tuners. I don't have the time for trial and error with those programs and I'm afraid of screwing something up and not being able to go back to the origial program. I'll leave that to the professionals, hence I'm paying for their expertice.

I see Hypertech has a Max Energy for the 4.3/5.3/6.0 2007-2008, it even says 2500HD LTZ, but I have to wonder how it works. Any Ideas?

Not trying to be rude or anything but it is your truck, right? What does your wife have to do with a custom tune vs a handheld?

Efi is the only ay to go hypertechis worthelss and will just make your truck ping. its not worth the money go custom or dont bothe imo

Just bought the Bully Dog Triple dog gas for my 07 NBS 6.0 w/ 6 speed tranny. really woke the truck up. It drives like a different truck (not lazy). Very satisfied with the results

same here, that &^%$ torque management is all gone now! at least it feels like it is...I actually like the regular octane tune better than the premium one--can't feel enough of a difference to justify having to use premium
