Had some extra time at work today so I made a prototype reese hitch cover. Its a little to wide I think. And I might just leave out the Z71. Any suggestions on making it better????

Good job for the first try. Looks good and will be perfect with some tweaking. Try making the Z a little smaller and then you can shrink the central body part which will make the sides appear thicker. I think the sides need to be thicker and the central body slimmer.

Good choice for materials for the overall look.

Leave the Z71

Looks good. I would suggest making it more in proportion to the original bowtie. I would also suggest not making the sides with sharp corners. Sure would hate to bang a shin into that or catch a pant leg on it. Ouch!

Nice work. One of the problems with this type of hitch cover is that if you are under your truck for any reason and forget that it is there the sharp edgescan play havoc with your back or head. I would recommend something like this:

Here's a link for some other custom hitches: http://www.customhitchcovers.com/

The problem that I've been trying to overcome is how to attach without having the huge locking pin or lock. I bought a solid steel hitch cover that I'm going to weld some nuts to and use some custom bolts that give cleaner look.
