Intake Gasket Fix

My friend and I are gonna replace my intake gasket. I saw the corrected part # for the new gasket we're supposed to use.

 

I was wondering if using Permatex orange (or something similar) in place of the gasket would be okay? I was wondering if it would be better since they're contracting and expanding at different rates already (plastic/metal) so I thought maybe something thicker might be a better way to go.

 

I thought I saw something about this before, but for the life of me I can't find the thread again.

IMO I wouldn't do it. You did not mention what size engine you have. I would use a Felpro gasket set. You can get them at Napa, Advance Auto, etc.

No, just install the gasket dry. Make sure the head and intake surfaces are very clean, and torque the bolts to spec.

If the gasket you need is by chance 89060413, I might be able to help you save some $. I bought one for my 5.3L Tahoe a month ago, but just traded in the truck and no longer need it. The IM gasket is still in the sealed package from GM. Send me a message if you are interested in it.

Sorry, I have a 5.3L. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. Any particular reason why the use of something like permatex would be less desirable? Just for my info.

If your trying to save money this is not the place to do it. The gasket is designed to seal the composit intake to the block. This is in part to keep from damageing the intake. IT only torques to about 11 ft. pounds. Mark.

Just another doublecheck. I picked up the Felpro intake gasket # MS92211. Just making sure it's the correct replacement for teal GM for my 2002 5.3L.

 

Just paranoid about finding out I have the wrong gasket when I get the intake off.

I couldn't tell you if that is an updated design. I always use the GM stuff.
