Integrated Brake Controller

Hi everyone, I am new to the board and have a quick question. I have a 2007 2500HD "new body style" WITHOUT the brake controller. Does anyone know if I could buy one and where I could get one? Thanks

The obvious answer is "have your dealer install it". If your truck wasn't built with the integrated controller you'll need the appropriate trim piece that contains the IBC, the switch and module (yep it's another "computer"). There might be some reflashing of the IPC required as well (possibly the EBCM as well). Certainly a bit of wiring too. Not a do it yourself job.

Looks like it may not be possible after all, at least not easily. It can be done (I've seen it done) but theres a service bulletin that says if your truck wasn't built with one then an aftermarket brake controller is your only option :D

takes no time at all to install an aftermarket brake controller ,harness is under the dash, connect to red wire taped beside the underhood fuse block to the post in front of the fuse block,or take it to a dealer to have a nice clean install, about an hr labour will cover it, & they stock the controllers ,or should, sorry irengineer,no 'putor to flash

Get a "BrakeSmart" controller. It's functionally equivalent (or better) than the built in one, installs in a half hour, and you can move it to your next truck(s).

Hey gmtech4, I believe Stoney was asking about the integrated brake controller available in the 07i's, 08's, and beyond. This is the one that is integrated into the dash panel on the drivers left side. I believe you were responding about an aftermarket brake controller. If I'm not mistaken we're talking apples and oranges here. Also, my second posting includes a PI that also says that adding the factory IBC is not an option, which means to me that they don't offer it as a dealer install. I'm making some assumptions here so if I'm wrong let me know.

As I said in my first post, I've seen a non IBC truck converted to include the IBC but that was not in a production truck.

I think the Tech Bulletin says is all - the IBC is NOT available as a dealer installed part.

The BrakeSmart is an aftermarket trailer brake controller that has a sensor that attaches to the rear brake line of the truck's brake system. The sensor converts the hydraulic pressure into an electrical signal which is amplified and sent to the trailer brakes. Most all other aftermarket brake controllers use some kind of inertia sensor that senses when the vehicle is under braking and applies the trailer brakes in porportion to the amout of deaccelleration it senses. There is a third type that makes a direct connection to the brake pedal and applies the trailer brakes accordingly.

I have used the pre ABS hydraulic to electric (brake fluid ran from the rear brake line directly to the controller under the dash) this was great and the trailer braking was perfect.

When I went to a new rig with ABS I had to go to an inertia type - first was a first generation Hayes and it lasted from 1989 to 2005 before it went belly up. I replaced it with a Prodigy second generation inertia type - night and day difference. The Prodigy was much smoother than the old Hayes. With the Hayes I was always trying to dial in the right amount of gain and onset. The Prodigy was a set and forget. The new IBC when coupled with the grade braking transmission is fantastic. It is much more like the very first controller I had.

Too bad they won't install it at the dealer.

There are several brands available that will mount under the dash and connect to the GM harness undrer the dash. Most large camper trailer outlets sell and install them. They are an easy install.
