arite guys well i dont wanna start a whole brand war here but give me your experiences with your plugs and wires.. if aftermarket... i've been thinking about changing them and i've been thinking about going higher quality or aftermarket so let me know... also let me know what kind of exhaust your running... i'm thinking about just swapping out the stock muffler and putting in something along the lines of an american thunder from flowmaster with a stainless tip... i have the 5.3L...

your help is much appreciated...

thanks, steve

NGK TR-55 coppers are probably one of the better plugs you can use...but you have to replace them often due to them being coppers....I have the TR-55 Platinums...they work good.

As for wires...I have MSD's...they were 5 bucks more than stock...with a Lifetime warranty and they're red...which is what I wanted...Taylor's and other companies make similar priced performance wires in a variety of colors....but without having a a lot of bolt-ons, or a built motor you wont get any gains out of performance wires other than aesthetics.

As for exhaust I run a FM super 44 single in dual out...Its lous when I'm on the gas, but nice and quiet at cruise, just how I wanted it.

I didn't know they had a life time warranty. I was looking into getting some new plug wires, because I'm going to have to switch my plugs out more often and I want some plug wires with a boot on them, IE something to yank on! I hate changing plugs, and they should make the job a bit easier. Looks like I'm getting red MSD's sometime :D

Once you make a choice, watch SummitRacing.com for deals. They run some pretty good specials on their stuff... I've purchased from them many times and been happy with the results.

Summit > yes

MSD > yes

Taylor > yes

Accel > no

Why you changing plugs more often?

Trying to stay away from the honey-do list?

Stretching exercises?

Me? Because I'm switching to copper plugs.

I run the copper tr-55's and they're worth changing every30K. The engine runs so much better, and you can add more timing safely without pinging.

Schmiddy- what gap you using with the tr-6? I heard lowering it to .03 gives a bit more power, mine are pretty much stock still at .055.

I should have said I'm switching plugs more often because I'm switching to copper TR6's and using n2o, because I already have the Tr-55 copper plugs now, also gapped @ .055.

Svenskioskov everyone says .035 is the best for TR6's, but the guys at the shop recommended me .040...maybe because I won't be using n20 constantly like supercharger/turbo applications constantly have psi? I'm not sure, but it's not that big of a difference. Acutally I don't even have the TR6's in yet, I'm waiting until the dyno/tune day, which should be in a few weeks.

Have you heard people that swear up and down your not supposed to re-gap certain plugs? Maybe it's just iridiums idk.

When I got my 91 tune from waitforme, I still had some pinging at high throttle with 91 octane in there. I'm pretty sure He said I needed to switch to a copper plug. Which one would you recommend. I'm pretty sure the one he said was also one of the cheapest one's around, but that they would be the best for my truck.

Thanks for the input.

NGK is the way to go but I went with Taylors over the MSD wires simply due to the service I received when I contacted the two companies looking for info. Taylor's are also 100% American made and some other brands import the wire itself. I went with their Powervolt 8.2

I ran straight copper TR-55's in my Tahoe and changed them every 30K and had great success with them. I also opted for the Taylor wires but I'm not convinced the wires make any difference since they are only a few inches long.

IMO the ONLY reason to run anything other than copper is longevity. They do not perform as well as copper. Lastly, have you ever tried to remove a plug that was not treated with anti-seize after 100K with an aluminum head? Those that are planning on leaving them in for 100K, you might want to pull them and anti-seize them now while you can still get them out without stripping the threads on the head.

yeah he also told me to rotate my maf sensor to stop the pinging LOL
