I See Spots... And A Question About Paint Rpo

Do any of you know a trick to getting water spots off of the windows?

My truck came from AZ, and I'm guessing stored outside, and has spots all over the glass. I've tried a razor and wax, but it's not enough.

The other question is for "Paint Etch Protection". I don't remember the RPO, and I didn't find it in the search. Is this just a tougher clearcoat, or something different?

Thanks,

I know what you mean. I've got hard well water. I'll be watching this thread too. :D

Vinegar works pretty well. I use it straight on a rag and dry / buff with newsprint. Normally this takes every bit of the deposits off with no more than two passes. I'd dampen the rag pretty well but don't drip it on the paint. If you do get it on the paint, plain water will dilute it and wash it away.

This will also work on the paint, but will require that you wax it again afterwards. Before I installed a filtered and softened water line outside, I had to do this every time I washed my truck.

A guy on another forum posted a good how to with Rust Stain Remover.

Doesn't sound like it would work, but it does, as it will get rid of the water spots that normal chemicals, or steel wool would not remove.

Just google for

That should find the thread.

Not to jack your thread, but what do you think would take off rain-x? I GOTTA get it off, its awful in the winter!

Stoners window cleaner

Stoner's is a great cleaner, but doesn't have the acidity of the vinegar. It's this acidity that is key to removing the water spots, as the spots themselves are generally basic in nature. Stoner's is great to use after using the vinegar and water though, especially with some newspaper.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the vinegar first, and look into the others.

As for the Rain-X, I always thought that it smelled like the stuff you dip Easter eggs in - uh, vinegar!

Try some rubbing alcohol in the corners to see if works. Any chemists out there?
