Hey All,

 

I want to replace my stock radio/CD player with a GPS Navi system.

First off,

Which ones will fit and which ones will not?

 

Is there some that are better quality than others? Easier to use?

 

I've looked at; Jensen VM9412 w/NAV101, Kenwood KVT-512 w/KNA-G510, and Pioneer AVIC-N4.

 

I pull a 5th wheel RV for camping at various location. We would also need to connect a Zune (MP3 player).

i just installed the pioneer avic d3 in my 03 gmc. its a flat screen, not a fold out. got it from crutchfield with the bluetooth,xm,ipod connection all for 799. total was alittle more because of the connectors to keep the steering wheel controls and onstar and door chimes, oh and the backup camera. total for everything was around 1100 and i installed it in about a day.

Looks like a double DIN (4")

 

Crutch told me that only a standard DIN (2") would fit.

Which is why I only looked at the ones mentioned.

That's a standard double din radio. You'll have to do a little dash modification, to get it to fit, but it's nothing you will see from outside the dash. I installed the Pioneer AVIC Z2. It came with Bluetooth and a back-up camera for $1269. It has a built in Hard drive to store music, pictures, etc, and has the navi maps stored on it. It's an increadable unit. I looked at the AVIC D3 also, and it's also a great unit, but I liked the HDD feature, so I don't need to buy an MP3 player. It rips cd's and stores them on your drive, so if you like a certain type of music, download it, burn to disc and store on the HDD until you delete it.

its the standard double, i belive crutchfield lists it as modifications required. and its not hard at all if your not afraid to do some minor cutting. One Bracket in the back that supports the factory stereo. 10 min and a dremel with some cut off wheels and it done. nothing difficult at all.

The D3 is an excellent aftermarket HU. It matches very well (especially the 900 series) and you can adjust the backlighting. No point in a fold-out screen if you have a 4" dash opening like many of us do.

Well Guys,

 

I decided not to go with the in-dash Nav.

In stead, I'm going with the Pioneer DEH-P6000UB and a Tom Tom 720 GPS.

 

More for the portability of the GPS than anything else.

 

What do you guys think?

well ive never been a big fan of navigation in vehicles anyways. i didnt pick the unit i bought for thenav, more for the dvd, bluetooth, xm, its expandablity, and always a fan of pioneer. i live in eastern washington and i can get myself to any place in washington,oregon and idaho without the help of a navigation unit. but while im on that drive i want to be able to watch, listen or talk, with ease. unless you constantly find yourself lost all the time, id suggest buying the best headunit you can get for the money, and use mapquest on the few times you need directions. my .02
