Rusty Rockers

Hello,

 

I have a fair amount of rust on my 2000 Silverado's Rocker Panels (and inside the door at the bottom) . I am planning on keeping this truck as long as possible and id like to stop the rust before its gone too far. I removed the flaky rust with sandpaper and applied rustoleum overtop. 2 weeks later the rust started showing through again, so obviously that didnt work. Has anybody had any luck restoring these rocker panels without replacing them? also, do any of those chemical rust removers work?

I would try again but using paint, if that fails, well im afraid that the doors need replaced.

I have a 2003 with the same problem. The lower edges of my passenger doors are a bubbly mess. I'm going to try hitting them with a wire wheel/ grinder and rust converter.
