1999 Silverado Interior Lights Weirdness

Hi,

 

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado Long Bed Ext Cab Z71 with 185k on it... The interior lights do not turn on either by the door switches or the dimmer switch. The map lights do not turn on (with their little buttons) and niether does the cargo light. In the message center on the dash board I get the "CARGO LIGHT ON" warning.

 

Any ideas before I take it to the dealer and spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

 

I checked fuses and... no the dome light overide is not turned on.

 

A few days ago I was driving along and heard a "fizzing" sound coming from under the dash on the driver's side. It lasted about 2 seconds and while it was going the "CARGO LIGHT ON" warning turned off. When the noise stopped the warning lit up again. There was no funny burning wire smell... There never has been in the truck.

Sounds like a short in the system or a bad body control module. The body control module is located right under the steering column.

I hate all this so called technology in modern cars... Makes it so complicated and $$$$ to fix them....

 

I'll probebly still take it to the dealer cause i just don't have the time..
