Just Installed New Blaupunkt Component Speakers

Recommended Posts

I just installed a new Blaupunkt GTc652 component speaker system in my truck on Tuesday. They aren't spectacular, but they are probably the best sounding pair of $80 speakers I've ever heard. Huge improvement over stock, the bass is much more responsive and free of distortion, the midrange is a lot smoother and not as harsh, and the treble is so much more brighter and clearer.

The tweeters fit almost perfectly in the stock locations near the power lock and window switches. Having the tweeters higher up and closer to my ears really helped improved the sound stage. It sounds like the band is playing right in front of you now.

Surprisingly, these component speakers don't need a lot of power, they sound great running off my Kenwood head unit. They actually play slightly louder than the factory speakers did.

Here are the pics:

I started by pulling off the door panels. The plastic sheets were falling off on the driver side, so I had to duct them back up.

The junk stock speakers, check out the mold that's been growing on the paper cones.

Got the Blaupunkt woofers mounted to the doors, now I'm waiting to put the door panels back on so I can install the tweeters.

Close up of the woofer. I realize that the speaker are mounted crooked, but I couldn't do much about that due to the way the adapter brackets were designed.

Before reinstalling the door panels, I cut out the cloth panels that hid the stock speakers now that I have something worth looking at in there. You can barely see the tweeters above as well.

Here is how I fitted the tweeters into the stock locations. Just take off the grille, set the tweeter inside, and replace the grille.

lookin' good. How do they sound?
They sound pretty good considering they were only $80. With a flat EQ, they aren't anything special, just better than stock. But with a little tweaking on the EQ, they sound great!

looking at putting these in my 08 3/4 ton. I'm pretty dumb about audio stuff but i know what good stuff sounds like. If i used these blaupunk's would i need to use the high pass? Becuase my stock tweeters are mounted up by the window and i like them there. I really don't want to start stringing cabel from the door up to the window. I plan on keeping the stock head unit as well.

thanks,

matt

You mean you would use the Blaupunkt woofers but keep the stock tweeters? That would work, but I don't know if it would sound any good.

Where are the stock tweeters at exactly? It shouldn't be too hard to run the wires to the tweeters.

Nice set up. Back in my younger days I was all for more, more, more. You could here me coming from 1/2 a mile away. My stock system does me just fine, though occasionally it gets cranked up when some Marshall Tucker, Outlaws, Blackfoot and Lynyrd Skynyrd hit the airwaves.

I'd like new woofers and tweeters. However the stock tweater is in the cab post, where traditionaly only the bose tweaters went. I like them there it give the impression of sound comeing from the window. I've looked up some blaupunkt woofer and tweeter combos and that is the baises for my question. Those combos said they come w/ a high pass for the tweeter. My thinking is that the stock unit already must split high and low frequency so putting the woofer in the door, and the tweeter in the cab post w/ stock wireing should work? My objective is to just get a little clearer base by upgradeing the speakers a bit. I can here the paper shacking and it is driveing me crazy!!

I don't know about the NBS trucks, but I know that with the older trucks, the woofers and tweeters received the same signal from the head unit but the tweeters had an inline capacitor, just like these Blaupunkt components. If it's the same way on the newer trucks, see if you can remove the factory capacitor. If you can, you should be fine by just connecting the Blaupunkt tweeter to the stock wiring. If you can't get rid of the cap, you will need to run new wires to the Blaupunkt woofer. You also can't remove the capacitor from the Blaupunkt tweeter and just use the stock one. The Blaupunkt cap is glued behind the tweeter and you'd probably have to destroy the tweeters in order to get it off.

thats quite the change but it looks a heck of a lot nicer than stock
Too bad they ended up sounding just as a bad as the stock speakers and bit the dust only after two months.

I love my new Diamond D3's though.

hey what size tweeters are those?

i could just buy the tweeters and did you hold them down with 3m tape or something or just the grill?

you said the wiring should be there... so it would be a pretty nice upgrade and go along with the sub im putting in

The Diamond or Blaupunkt tweeters? Both were 1" diameter. I just sat the Blaupunkt tweeter between the grille and the panel, but I used silicone to hold the DA tweeters to the panel.
