91 Stepside Changing To Carbuerator

Have the above truck and want to change to carb. I can install the old style fuel pump on the side of the block or put in a pressure regulator and use the one in the tank. Has anyone done this, and will the pump in the tank live without a return line. I was told back a while ago that the pump would not last long without a return line, (don't know why). Anybody done this or know someone who has. thanx. wnk.

I've seen the Edelbrock 650cfm carb on a 93 Chevy, replacing the throttle body injection. Belongs to a good friend. He runs an electric fuel pump mounted on the frame rail instead of the OEM unit. I don't believe you can retrofit a mechanical pump to that engine. Even if the block off plate is there (after some point they quit having the hole altogether) the eccentric that runs the pump won't be there.

 

His truck runs nice. If you didn't know it was converted, you'd think it was all original. I believe it requires a modified factory type air filter housing to look stock underhood.

i just swapped an 89tbi to carb in an 84 gmc. i mounted holley elec.fuel pump on frame, your gonna need a eddie intake as well and make sure you get the right one with the diff. angle holes in the middle to mount to heads 70degree angle i believe.

Aftermarket fuel pump and regulator is the way to go on this one.

when ive done this i used a regulator that had a port for a return line and ran new lines from the regulator to the break in the lines down on the frame where they thread together.
