Milage Devided By Engine Hours Equals To? Doesn't Add Up

Was looking at a truck with close to 92000 kms (57000 Miles) and 782 engine hours. What that tells me is that the average speed per hour of engine life comes out to about 117 KPH or about 73 MPH. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that it is not a possible average under normal ciscumstances on any road vehicle.

 

If the engine was changed, is the data changed or re-set to zero also? Is it possible to change the data be it engine hours or milage? I have heard of rolling back the odometer, but these are digital units.

 

If the instrument panel goes defective, either completely or partial, could these readings be affected, in the case of this vehicle, the engine hours not tallying correctly and the milage remaining true?

My "engine hours" in the DIC has, for some unknown reason, reset itself like 3 or 4 times. Don't know why... but thats the only thing in the entire DIC that reset. Must be some small glitch.

 

I have 58,027 miles.... and my engine hours reads 117 haha... thats a fast ass truck

An average of 496 MPH to be exact.

Same here. My DIC reset the engine hours last winter. Had approx. 450 when reset to zero, now approx. 150.

I haven't had mine reset itself, but I do know it can be programmed in. When I had my cluster replaced under warranty, it had another 35 hours programmed in it when I got the new one.

I spoke with my local dealership and they tell me that there were problems with 03's and 04's instrument clusters. A couple of trucks that I had, bought them at auction from a major company, when I requested a printout of repairs done, they came with Instrument panels being replaced, they were both 04's. Nothing has come up instrument panel wise on the 05's I'm driving now.

 

Check with the dealer if there is a service bulletin or recall on your model. Was told that if it's over the warranty period, they would be pro-rated.
