Silverado At The Salt

It was a beautiful, cool day at the Bonneville salt flats yesterday (95 degrees). We didn't get to set a World Land Speed Record with the Silverado, though - in fact, we decided not to try to get all the way out to the Measured Mile due to ths softness of the salt in some places. But it was in pretty good shape in most places for so early in the season. Hopefully this year's Speed Week will be a big success! If nothing else, I ended up with a great new wallpaper image for my computer!

cool pic! my buddy I graduated highschool with and went to college with is working at a high performance shop and they're supposed to be putting together a 34 Ford for the flats. I can't remember what they want to run, but i think it was like 160 or 180 MPH!

The best of luck to them! This was my first visit - I want to go back during Speed Week since I have friends who run there. I was surprised at how flat and smooth it was, and even more how hard the salt is and how much the surface is like sandpaper. I expected it to be more like loose powder or something. No wonder they have the traction to run! However, it's very succeptable to ground water conditions. We came back with a nice patina of salt that I hated to wash (fans of land speed record runs know that look!) but, obviously, it would disolve the truck! It washes off easier than I expected.
