Oh God, Another Intake Question/s

So, after reading 15 pages on intakes, i need a bottle of aspirin and down some hard alcohol :uhoh: . Im still a toss up with keeping the factory box, opening the side, maybe a hole on the bottom and tube it like some other people here did. Least with it being a brand new truck under warranty. Or just take it out and use a cone element. I was also looking at kits like airaid, but the owner of custom shop said the heat shield is pretty worthless since it wont make a seal and better off just going with the cone.

Couple of questions, seeing the cheesy foam wrap that goes between the factory air box and fender, is there something out there better/thicker to replace that with to get a tighter seal. If i retain the factory air box, is a dry cone filter better versus getting a better flat filter to replace the stock one?

After talking to the owner today where i had my magnoflow exhaust done (twisted pipes, guys been in bunch of magazines for high end engine work) suggested taking the factory out, run a down tube, use a air bypass valve so you dont have to worry about water, and have the cone filter just behind the front bumper, nice and cold. Thoughts on any of this??

Go with a GMPP intake, Or go with the ram air behind the front bumper, if it's with in reason cost wise. I mean you don't want to spend $450 on some custom cold air intake system that won't give you that large of a performance gain especially if all you have done is the exhaust. Now if you had a super charger I could see justifying it but not for just bolt on performance mods.

If you can fab up a ram air setup, obviously that's the way to go. That said, I'm happy with my Volant. I think you'd be happiest with a custom tune before an intake though.
