The plastic slide in liners will scratch the bed and trap dirt. The spray in liners look real good (make sure you get the UV protective spray so it doesn't fade) but they are permanent. If you plan on NEVER putting anything in the bed I wouldn't put one on...but you never know when you might have to utilize it.

Why the need for a liner then? I've had nothing but good results with drop-in liners. I've yet to have a truck bed "destroyed" by one.

Neither will hurt your bed.

My bed liner is held in by a couple of screws so it does not move around a lot. Its been in going on 3 years and no damage yet. So I would say it works for me. I would not put any thing in that could not be removed later.

Here is my take on it. If you haul a lot and throw stuff in the back, get a spray on. They are the best protection for the tough bed user.....

 

On the other hand, if you are like me, and just haul light stuff or have a topper, just buy one of the good quality rubber mats for the bottom. It stops stuff from sliding much better than a spray on. (Even if I had a spray on, I would still use one of these).

 

I figure if after a little while, the inner sides get some scratches, what the heck, do a spray on later and it will cover them anyway.....

I have the chevy bedliner with the bow-tie, that is under the rails. I also have a pad bedliner saver, between the paint and bedliner. I have noticed minor scuffing, on the inner sides, where the 2x4 slots are, but the bottom of the bed is clean. I take out the bedliner, twice a year, to clean under it. The bedliner will move alittle. I got the pad bedliner saver at an rv/camper shell palce, in a 6x8 piece.

I am asking it because I am about to buy a brand new truck that have bedliner installed ,I am sure I will take it off ,How hard is it to desinstall it?

if it has a spray in you will have to get a new box...

 

my uncle ordered a truck and they sprayed over the rails (which he didnt order) and the line-x place had to buy him a brand new silverado box....

 

if its a drop in.... lift up in the middle it comes out of the bed rails and then just have a buddy help you carry it out.... 2 min job

bedliner from the dealer is installed with 5 screws however the tailgate protector is held on by 10 screws, all these screws are self tapping and I refused a bedliner when I got my truck I opted for the bed rails and bed mat. I hate the thought of screw holes in my sheet metal.

 

I have seen the wear that occures from these bedliners when removing them from trade in vehicles, I personally don't like them.

 

If you are leasing your truck go for it if you are buying it and want to maintain your bed quality for years get a spray on or at the least the bed mat.

I will take it off ,the truck is only 9 miles ,the bed must be pretty perfect ,don't you think?

sure it will look perfect except for all the screw holes.
