Flaming River Steering Shaft

Since I have done EVERY DAG BLASTED THING to fix the clunking issues, I need to look at other options. OEM stuff and their current shaft sucks and doesn't work. I tried Dorman, it didn't work. I am now left to try either a Borgeson or Flaming River replacement.

Has anyone installed the Flaming River complete replacement unit? Input is needed, as my truck knocks like a mother and I am so fed up with this mess.

Josh, we have sold a boat load of the DOR shaft and to my knowledge not one issue yet.

Can you tell me more about what the DOR shaft did?

I am guessing you may have another issue maybe.

Just to add.....We've sold A LOT of the new design GM shaft (Part#19153614) and not had one single issue,This is since the new one came out around Feb. of last year.

I'm with Trey...Maybe you have another issue?

my clunk just came back about a month or so ago...i had them repack it a while back and havent changed anything to the steering do you think if i went back and talked to the same guy(if hes there) that they would replace it for free even though it is no longer under warranty

Yeah,Like I said...We haven't seen, had,or heard of any issues with the new one so far.

I still keep a couple in stock at the dealership at all times, because were still changing them over and going through 3-4 a month.

Being an '04 theres a very good chance they can do a "Goodwill" coverage on it and get it covered under warranty for you,It won't hurt to ask them...Just be nice to'em when asking!!

FYI My truck is a crew cab Z71, as the suspension differense may have something to do with it maybe. Just a thought but here goes.

ok here's the synopsis of the past year and a half:

1. OEM shaft lubed lasted a short few weeks/months and started clunking again.

2. Replaced shaft with newest design, clunked again

3. Replaced shaft again, clunking still there

4. Bought Dorman shaft and clunking reduced but not gone and shaft added 1/2 inch play left to right in steering wheel

5 Bought new green color plastic bearing and installed it with the new design shaft and Dorman shaft, clunking there with both.

6. Added 2 plumber clamps around trhe metal housing of the plastic bearing and that didn't work.

7. Returned Dorman shaft and replaced with the newest design shaft I had and left it alone til I could come up with a solution.

So: I have done everything I know to do and am looking for some help, as I really have no idea what to do and the clunking is terrible.

Fellas I am looking at what to do. I had heard Dorman may have redesigned their shafts and I would consider trying one as I do not want to pay $400 to try a new solution (aka the Flaming River replacemnt)

Please help me the clunking is bad.
