Is There A How-to Guide On Changing The Air Filter?

I bought some Amsoil products and one of them is the air filter. I'm not mechanically inclined but I can follow directions, so if anyone has a guide on replacing the air filter, I'd certainly appreciate it - I'm going to tackle that this weekend.

1. Turn off engine.

2. Raise hood.

3. Find air filter box. (Hint: Its at the front on the passenger side.)

4. Remove 4 screws on the lid.

5. Raise lid and set aside.

6. Remove old air filter.

7. Install new air filter.

8. Replace lid.

9. Tighten screws.

10. Lower hood.

11. Discard rubbish.

I used to worry about this as well but you have to remember there are guys out there that have no experience with a vehicle other then turning the key for it to start. I was under the hood from a very early age and once thought everyone else was as well. Especially today we are seeing a generation of drivers who know little to nothing about what goes on under their hood. This was unheard of when I was in my teens or early 20s.

 

Being in the Auto Parts industry and in and out of our stores all of the time, I see people, male and female, who are attempting to do some of their own work. I admire them for trying and encourage our Store Teams to be patient with them, help them when they can and refer them to a Professional Technician when the job is over their head.

While there is plenty of "play", you still want to be carefull of the MAF/IAT sensor harness.

That's me. I can get my way around a car pretty good and am in the process of a complete restoration of a 68 Buick Wildcat Convertible, but please do not ask me to build a bird house.

 

Actually, I have just about completed my first ever real building project. A hen house for my kid's chickens. I found some nice plans on the web, printed them off and went at it. It is going to turn out really nice but I did get some advice from time to time from my neighbor who works for a building supply place.

My truck's never been into the dealer and I've done all my own maintenance (same as my last truck, except for the transmission rebuild). I'm also in construction and know how to maintain my own home. I also built the desktop computer I currently use. So ha, I can do it all!

Ok, I wasn't trying to hound on anyone. I was just kidding. I know there are people who have no idea, my brother-in-law being one of them. I have taught my sister more about cars, she can even top off her a/c system without any help (dang good for her). And I am also in Construction. Working to get my Construction Management degree so I don't have to be the worker bee anymore. You would be surprised at the guys at school that are going into this major that don't know anything. And I have built 3 home computers so I can do that too. One work, one middle of the road, one hardcore gaming system. And surprisingly I can also rub my belly and pat my head at the same time and recite the ABC's backwards but it takes awhile. I guess I can do it all. Hammers down.

 

EDIT: Norman, I wasn't houndin' on you. Besides look at all that audio gear you installed. Alot of people that work on cars are intimidated with that.

sometimes i feel that way to, but more because if they have a problem on the side of the road late at night. they are screwed.

 

everyone knows different things, but the fact that one is curious on learning new things is AWESOME. when it comes to these kind of things, there is never a dumb question. heck, when i graduated highschool i couldnt even check my oil. through years of reading and messing around i now professionally tune vehicles and build race cars. further I have help aftermarket manufacturers engineer parts for several different performance vehicles.

 

i commend anyone who wants to take charge and be a master of what they own!!!! dont know what you are doing, ask away. the guys who make you feel dumb about asking simple questions dont know near as much as they come across knowing. trust me

Yo Norman,you will need a Torx driver to remove that lid too.I'm not sure what size,but a run to the tool store may be in order

Agreed. I'll take anything apart (guitar, truck, car, lawnmower, bike etc.), but wiring scares the living hell out of me. I'm slowly getting better at it though...

Get the real torx bit too. I have the O'Reilly's cheap set and they rusted the first week out of the package and they are pretty weak. I wish I had gotten the AC Delco set of Torx bits now instead of wasting $15.
