Spare Tire Mount

Recommended Posts

The mount that holds my spare tire on broke after I took it off to chagne a flat. I was thinking it may be a common problem because a friend with a 2000 Silverado has the same problem.

Is there a fix for this or some sort of after market alternative?

I have a 2005 Silverado 2WD.

What part of it broke? I know there have been a few people who had the cable break.

The cable is there but the thing won't turn to lower it back down. The guy at the tire place said it's not fixable but I was at least going to ask about it. Thanks.

Also sweet truck in the signature.

Mine just jammed half way down and wouldn't go back up. I had to cut the cable to get the spare off. After I took the lift off, I tried getting it to loosen up, but I couldn't and ended up buying a new one. I got one off of ebay and it was $54.95 with shipping. The seller is an actual parts store and has them on ebay all the time. Dealer quoted me $149.95 and found it from a GM website for $95. The part looked identical to the factory part and was made in the USA.

Leather trouser belt seems to hold my spare tire in place well.

Opps, wrong type of spare tire!
