Extended Range Remote Start Self Installation

My apologies for starting a new topic, but the other one has been closed. I have a regular range remote start (AP3) on my 08 Silverado and want to self-install the extended range remote start. The dealer order in part number 19171129 for my vehicle, which I believe is the correct part. He wants to charge me $100 for installation. Will I need to take the vehicle in for programming if I install the antenna and module myself or is there a way around it.

Thats the "advanced 2-way remote start system" you have ordered,It will require programming by the dealer.

For $100 bucks I'd let them do the install.

Maybe get that price quote in writing before they start.

Definatly due that. I dropped my truck off yesterday at 9, its now 4:30, 1 day later and I don't know if its done yet. I guess on the Silverados they have to take the back seat out to mount the antenna. There also having trouble downloading the programming. Mine is the first the Dealership has done. I hope they get it right.

I spoke to them again and they said that this is their first install as well. That being the case and me being a guineau pig, they agreed to $66 which covers the labor. I think I am going to go for it and get it in writing. Thank you for the advice!

If you haven't taken it to the dealer yet... If you have TPMS They have to copy the information from the old remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) and paste it in the new one so unless you have the programmer that can do that, you pretty much have to take it to the dealer. If you do not have TPMS, I guess you could do it yourself but I haven't tried.

Can they add some type of module to it to roll up the windows when airmed?
Aftermarket products will do this, not GM

SmartWindowsRemote Power Window ControlMore Power to Power Windows. Open, close and vent the car's power windows using the G5 security system remote control. SmartWindows also adds extra features inside the vehicle: one tap fully open, one tap fully closed. Tap the switch during roll-up and roll-down to instantly stop the window. Vent opening is selectable via the CliffNet Wizard, and can be vented repeatedly after remote arming. The SmartWindows Safety Stop feature halts window movement if there is an obstruction. spacer.gifsmartwindows.jpg

I just picked up my new truck yesterday and have the extended range 2-way remote starter in it. This was the first one this dealership did. Mounting the extra antennae took them twice as long as they were anticipating. The salesman said that they were looking at increasing the labour component as a result.

So - $100 - sounds like a deal. I'd let them do it.

I believe their brochure for it says 1.1 to 2.3hrs estimated labour. I got mine back yesterday. The antenna is mounted behind the rear seat just under the glass on the plastic trim. The control box must be down behind the seat. They had my truck 2 days doing it, it failed the download the first time which they said is common. We've been having some bad storms and maybe its affecting their satellite reception. Anyways got it back, works well and I was charged the 2.3 hours.

I got mine installed last week for $100. Took the dealership half a day and they had it in. I haven't had a chance to test the range, but everything seems to work fine. I just had one comment that seems like it would be easy to add and would add useful functionality. Couldn't GM have put a function for interior temperature for those vehicles equipped with ATC? The thermocouples are already in place in the cabin for this system and just take an average of them to transmit to the key fob. It would be useful in determining how much your vehicle has warmed up/cooled down or if it is worth it to even remote start the vehicle. Just my two cents.
