First Oil Change

Ok guys 'm not starting any wars just looking for some advise. My truck has 804 miles and 91% oil life. When I got the truck it had 22 miles on it. When does everyone do there FIRST oil change? Sorry but this is my first new truck in 10 years. By the way it's a 5.3L.

IDK about the 5.3 but in my buddies 3500HD Durmax they told him to get it changed around 1,000 IIRC... After that they said change oil when the change oil light says so.

I changed mine @ 1000 miles, then 3000 miles, and there after @ 5000 miles.

Thats my schedule. I just did the 3000 one, but after the 5,000 I will do it at about 3-5k.

1st change at 1500 miles and every 3000 miles thereafter. I like CLEAN oil in my engine. Not 1/2 clean.....EVER!!!

that's a good schedule and one everyone should keep. I run Mobil 1 Synthetic

You could change it now, but don't go past 1,000 miles. If you've never had a new vehicle/engine before, you will be surprised at the amount of metal in the drain oil. But don't worry, that's perfectly normal, and is the reason for doing the first oil change so early.

Don't go over 1000. Here is my oil sample report at 607...that crap is nasty! Dirt, wear metals, etc. All normal for a new engine or overhaul, but no need to keep it in there longer than you have to.

I'd do mine at every 3,000mi if full synthetics didnt cost so much and if I drove it harder... Most of my driving is highway and even after 5,000mi the oil hardly looks dirty (Amsoil).

 

I try to do mine every 6,000mi and no more then 8,000mi.

Valvoline 5w30 conventional for me.

ah yeah. well even the conventionals are going 5K now but I wouldn't go higher.
