Vin Check Please

I went to a Chevy dealer and they printed one out for me. I wish I would have asked where it was sold because I think it is an out of state truck (snow plow battery added, and something has been bolted to the front frame). In the printout, YE9 means Silverado trim. On the online Vin decoders, it says convenience pkg 3 or something.

Anyways, it was the parts dept at Rydell in Van Nuys, Ca. Thought I'd give 'em some props!

The other reason for the out of Ca. possibility is the window tint. It says it has factory deep tint on the RPO, but I don't know what percentage that is. I got pulled over for having the dealer paper over the plates. Once he saw I was legit, he told me to tear them off when I got home. They are cracking down, because a lot of folks are just putting the dealer ad over the plate so as not to have to register it. He also mentioned my tint. I said it was factory and he left it alone, but it causes me to wonder if I am legal or not.

The reason I ask is I'm looking at getting an '05 Sierra 2500HD. The build sheet the salesman e-mailed me says it has an Allison 5-speed (M74) yet his mechanic of 20 years says Allison only made 6-speed trannys. Who is correct? See below.

The mechanic is wrong. Allison makes all kinds of transmissions for a number of different vehicles, for a number of different models (from tanks to medium duty trucks) with a number of different speeds (gears). My Silverado has a 5speed Allison automatic. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Merlin. I didn't think the build sheet he provided was mistyped. Does your HD have a shift button with the +/- on the gear selector? I'm told that is only on the 6-speed Allison equipped HD and one of the codes is LLY.

Your welcome Midwest, anytime. No, my truck does not have +/- shift button. I am pretty sure only the 6-speed Allison transmissions have that feature. LLY is an engine code for a specific version of the Duramax Diesel. The version in my truck is LB7.
