Mods And Warranty

After going through this forum I have come to the conclusion that you all must know something I don't.

I have a 2008 Sierra and would love to add a CAI and an Corsa Sport Exhaust (to many Flowmasters around here). Now the truck is brand new (5 months old) and since I'm so worried about voiding warranties I priced out GMPP peices such as the ones I listed prior. Not only do the GMPP ones cost more, it doesnt look like they work as well as the K&N CAI and the Corsa Sport. The K&N gives more HP gain and costs less while the GMPP costs more and delivers less (based on charts I've seen). The Corsa is better known, does not require the removal of the stock spare and provides better HP gains (thats just an assumption so maybe I shouldnt have said it) then the GMPP exaust.

What do you guys do when it comes to warranty crunch time and having voiding after market products on your oh so sexy trucks?

Oppinions on the products sugested are welcome as well incorperating GMPP and K&N and Corsa.

Thanks!

Neither will void your warranty. They just void the warranty for the components you replaced.

And what chart are you referring to when comparing intakes? They all pretty much do the same thing. Same goes for the exhaust systems. Both Corsa and GMPP (Borla) Cat-Back systems are free flowing systems, straight through, no restriction. So I don't see any difference in HP there as well.

Yep,You'll be alright if you go with a K&N and a CORSA,I have the GMPP air intake and a CORSA "Sport" system on mine.

Of course since I'm the parts manager at the dealership no matter what I do I'm covered :D

Unless those mods cause any parts to fail or have issues, ex. k&n filter oil gets on maf sensor and the vehicle starts running rich and causes damage to other emissions systems but either of those cai's are oiled, I would say put a dry filter on it, maybe a volant or aem and exaust shouldn't have any issues, most are the same basic design and other than sound you couldn't tell the difference.

The GMPP intake system uses a "dry filter"

Don't let the oily K&N talk scare you either though. I have a K&N in every vehicle I own and have owned for many, many years. I've never had a problem, nor has anyone I have ever known who runs a K&N. Follow the directions and you'll be fine if that's what you end up choosing.

Don't sweat the warranty with a CAI or Exhaust at all. :D

I It's good to know that it doesn't seem to be as big an issue as I make it out to be.

How often does this K&N oil issue occur? Are their ways around it assuming to were to happen?

What other potential upgrades can I make the are simple but useful?

People with the K&N and GMPP CAI's, do you notice a gain in responsiveness to justify the price? Power as well?

MS3DALE, your the service Mgr? What GMPP would you recommend if anything? They don't even have to be performance parts, just things to give my truck a unique look without significant alterations.

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the help your providing seeing as how this is now my second post! :D

The oil issue is mainly a factor when people clean them and when re-oiling them they drowned them in the stuff, also you can buy maf cleaner if it becomes an issue, I have had some friends that their trucks started missing and chugging and they just had to clean it, problem solved just don't drive around for 6 months like that. But I have never seen that become a warratny issue

and I've been working at gm dealerships for going on 4 years now.

The guy @ I deal w/ is the mgr of the service dept. so hes pretty honest and swings me deals, but it's a little hard to swing a deal on something that is overpriced to begin with.

I'm really siding w/ K&N as it seems to preform better and is cheaper. Questions, questions, questions...!

What I look for in a CAI is a plastic intake tube, cleanable filter, and solid mounting pieces so it doesn't bounce around, other than that find a brand that suits you. And exaust if you find one that you like than go with it, don't be afraid to go to a muffler shop if you can't find exactly what you are looking for and from what I here a "tune" is your best upgrade that you can feel. I already wasted my money on the edge programmer and now I'm too broke to get it tuned so I can't vouge to the benifeits.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
