Tpms Reset Not Working

HI, I HAVE AN 07 TAHOE LTZ. I'VE ROTATED THE TIRES, FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS JUST AS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL SO THAT THE COMPUTER CAN "RELEARN" THE POSITION OF THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS. I CAN GET THE TRUCK INTO THE "LEARN" MODE (HORN BEEPS TWICE, PARKING LAMP LIGHTS) AND I HAVE TRIED INCREASING AND DECREASING THE PRESSURES OVER MANY DIFFERENT TIME FRAMES (SECONDS) AND PRESSURES. I NEVER GET THE FIRST HORN HONK TO INDICATE IT HAS LEARNED THE LF TIRE, AND THUS I CAN'T FOLLOW BY GOING TO THE RF, RR, LR TIRES. I'VE READ ALL I CAN ON THE NET AND SHORT OF GOING TO THE DEALER, DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO TRY. THANKS, MIKE

Dealer had to reprogram mine. I got the learn mode two honks the first honk at the left front tire, and that was it. I am unclear on if there is a horn honk at each wheel or not. My conclusion now is no. Instead you must follow the parking lights that are on.

I had to let quite a bit of air out of the first tire before it signaled me to go to next tire, after that everything went as it should have.

Same here. I had to have a tire replaced, a week or so ago. While they were at it, I had the guys at Discount Tire rotate the tires, too, since the new ones had already been on there for about 5k miles. Well, I didn't realize until this morning that they never did the re-learn. So, the fronts were reading as rears and the rears were reading as fronts. It seemed to take for-ever for the driver's front to finally 'register' with the system on the truck. After that, all went smoothly.

 

I've done three rotations now. There is a honk at every wheel.

Agreed. When it senses the change in pressure for "that" tire/wheel, it'll beep and you can move on to the next one.

Well at least I know now I wasn't doing it wrong. It seems that it must not register quickly or have good reception or something to that affect that causes it not to recognize or respond to the sensors very quickly.

The first tire I did this morning... It took long enough that I was getting concerned that I was letting TOO MUCH air out of it. It took several seconds.

Mike, Welcome to the forum. You should get a honk after each wheel and then 2 honks at the end. Then you will have a TPM error on your DIC. Then you take it to the dealer. :dunno:

Well, I finally gave up and had to take it to the dealership. Just hope I don't have to do that after every rotation. Thanks to those that wrote in with information. I'll try it again in a few months and see what happens.

Yea what he said. Just to throw in my two cents there is SUPPOSED to be horn chirp verification at each wheel but any tech who has done a hundred of position learns will tell you that 10 of them did not verify, watch the marker lights, the corner that needs to be programmed next should be lit and once programmed should go out. Also just letting out air doesn't seem to work for alot of them, try removing the core till you get the verification, you will loose a considerable amount of air doing that so make sure a compressor is near by.

I did my 08 Silverado last week and it went really smoothly. I got the first honk after loosing 5 psi. The next 3 were done about the same. Horn chirps after each tire. We did my friends 07 this weekend and couldn't get it to go past the first tire. He had the valve removed and the tire was almost flat. The warning light lit on the dash, so it saw the tire was low. We tried removing air, adding air and doing the first for 10 seconds and moving on, nothing seemed to work. One difference, he could access the Learn Tire mode using the DIC switches, mine doesn't have that, I had to use the Lock/Unlock on the key fob. I wonder if there is a computer upgrade that would make it work?

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
