Anyone Else Pissed About Their Wait4me Tune?

I bought a handheld tuner from wait4me a few months ago and I am finally getting around to griping about it.

When I first put the tune on my vehicle I was immediately dissappointed, but I thought maybe it needs to "learn" my truck so I gave it a few weeks. I noticed a very (and I mean very) minor difference.

Pretty much everything that I had requested in the tune, I didn't get. I can't tell any difference at all between the economy and the towing mode. The performance mode is better than the other two but still extremely weak. The shifts feel almost stock in economy and towing. They are slightly better in the performance mode but definitely not performance shifts. The "torque management" is still just as present as the factory tune (it was supposed to be reduced 80% for economy and towing). TM was reduced in the performance mode but not eliminated as requested. And after being assured that all their tunes are e85 compatible I got a MIL while running only 1/2 tank of e85.

The only thing that I can say that I do like about the tune was that I noticed about a 4mpg increase when I keep my foot out of it.

Now the part that really made me pissed. I sent them an email after having the tuner for about a month. This was their response "Just send the unit back to us ... and $9 for return shipping. Jesse will change it and send it back."

I know $9 isn't much but why should I have to pay another $18 (I have to pay to ship to them as well) to send the unit to them when they didn't get it right in the first place! This is just ridiculous.

Any one else had any problems like this?

I am sure Wayne (Omegafiler) will be chiming in here very soon to defend his hero. :D

Jesse Bubb is a hack, send it back, get a refund and have Justin (Blackbear) do your tune for you.

Right Wayne?

In my opinion the hack did a pretty good job with my tune as I've been happy with it for well over a year. I noticed a difference soon after installing but you have to remember these aftermarket tunes are not the end all in performance. I think far too many times people install tunes and think they're trucks now a 2000lb rocket on wheels with a 800hp engine. You'll feel 20-30 hp but there's not a night a day difference between stock and aftermarket. What most feel and think is massive HP gains in other non-hack tunes are tranny line pressure changes and throttle response. There are 1000's of tables that can be changed to customize a engines computer if you REALLY want a custom tune buy EFIlive and tune it yourself, then you can change every table if you'd like a get EXACTLY what you want.

Given the amount of detuning that GM did in the programming of the computer for these trucks, an aftermarket tune should be a "night and day" difference if done right. No I don't expect my truck to suddenly turn into a "2000lb rocket on wheels with a 800hp engine." My "truck" is a "truck". I expect it drive like a "truck". That is why I bought my "truck".

It's more than not having as much extra power as I expected. When you can feel the motor bog - heavily - when you accelerate; when you can feel it bog between shifts; when the engine won't rev over 2k when you stomp on it from a stand still, there is obviously something that can be improved.

The reason that I am so dissappointed is that I wanted to finally be able to drive my truck how I wanted to. If I want to spin my tires from a stand still, I should be able to. If I want to power brake my truck, I should be able to (here come the flames about how stupid that is to do - I know, I'm just making a point). If I want to be able to accelerate hard without the motor falling on its face, I should be able to. My point is that I should be able to have full power to the wheels all the time if I'm paying someone $369 to have that ability.

This isn't even what I was really complaining about in the first place. My complaint was that they completely ignored what I requested when I placed my order and they want me to pay the shipping to fix what they screwed up.

With my tune, I definitely felt a night and day difference. If u want a good tune I suggest u get a black bear performance tune. The reason why you probably don't feel a difference is because he probably didn't remove any TM. I heard that Jessie at Wait4Me doesn't want to remove TM and he says that removing TM won't make a difference, which is false, IMO you get what you pay for.

Yeah, well for $369 I thought I was paying for what I was getting. I'm sure the TM thing is where most of the problem is with the tune. Like I said you can feel it bog between shifts and especially when you mash the go pedal - it just totally falls on its face.

Can I get some more info on the Black Bear Tune? I was looking at his website. He actually sends you something to datalog with and he will make a tune off of that? That sounds like a way better deal - if I can still get a refund for the thing I got from wait4me.

Right Wayne? :(

Yep, what can I say, Jeff is right. I hope everybody has learned a valuable lesson here. If you have a problem, just complain about it on a forum, and go with another product. That'll fix everything.

But seriously, I really don't care. :D Work with the tuner, get it fixed, go with another tuner, get it tuned in person, learn to tune yourself, who cares. It's your time and money. Do whatever makes ya happy. Good luck! :dunno:

I had the same experience.

He actually did a decent job on my tune. I did notice a night and day difference. Of course I ordered a performance tune rather than an economy tune.

Of course now I'm plagued by a misfire at idle 20K miles later and who knows if the tune settings had anything to do with it. I doubt it though I'm pretty sure it's the intake gasket.

Well I sent them another email today. They said they would fix it and didn't ask for return shipping this time. However, they brought up a whole new issue with the MIL coming on with e85.

I was told this time that their tunes aren't e85 compatible. Here's what the email said:

"If the truck didn't come from the factory a flexfuel vehicle, we won't tune for E85 fuel... so if the vin number didn't pull up with the flexfuel info Jesse wouldn't have tuned for it. You should never run E85 if it isn't a flexfuel even with tuning because you will damage your engine. I'm sorry about this but I don't know who would have told you tuning would make your truck E85 compatible that isn't even remotely possible."

Before I ever bought this handheld I sent them an email asking about this very subject. As a matter of fact, I still have the emails. This is what I asked:

'I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 5.3L gas-only truck. My question is would you be able to send me a tune that would make this truck compatible to run e85?'

This was the reply that I received:

"All tunes are able to handle the e85. even though more power is to be had with normal fuel...Jes"

So I sent them a copy of both of those emails and this was their response:

"He probably thought the vehicle was a flexfuel vehicle to begin with. The factory fuel system can not work with the E85, 10% it can work with but with E85 it can't. The stock fuel injectors are way to small. The whole fuel system between a flexfuel and a non are completely different."

I don't know how 'a 2006 Chevy Silverado 5.3L gas-only truck' could have been more clear that it was gas only.

Hmm... Jesse originally told me that he can make my truck work with e85. Now all of a sudden after I made the purchase I am being told that it isn't even possible? Does anyone else see something wrong with this?

And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
