Dealer Says I Need It to Fix the "Service Air Bag" Message

What do you need to know about it Chris? Did they give you a DTC?

I am just curious to know what it is and if I need a dealer to install it or can a local shop do it?. You remember I posted a thread asking about some part numbers (Thanks again for getting those for me). This is the part number the dealer gave me to fix the "Service Air Bag message." Funny how it's a $75 part but the dealer wants nearly $300 to make the message go away. I'm just a little aggrivated right now because my truck needs an oil change, new seals, new front rotors, new front brake pads, and an intermediate steering shaft. That's over $1000 in work. I called my local automotive shop that my dad and I have gone to for years and they're going to do all of the work for us at a fraction of the cost. I bet when I get done with this though my truck will be good as new. BTW what's a DTC?

Part # 15057506 is the front air bag sensor,Its mounted on the bottom of the front radiator support.

 

A "DTC" is a "Diagnostic Trouble Code"...This is displayed on the screen of the scan tool (AKA-"TECH2") it lets the tech. know what to look for for proper diagnoses,and to help him fix the problem.
