Predator Vs Edge Programmers

Recommended Posts

just got the predator for my 07 NNBS sierra with 5.3L engine. I currently have the Edge programmer install in it but I got a good deal on the predator from a member of another forum. I uninstall my Edge with extreme setting and install the Predator with the diablo 93 tune with the DOD off and the tires adjusted.

This only had the v8r10 update on it from 12-0-07 so there might be more adjustment option then what I have now. If so let me know!!

I took it for a test drive and WOW I can spin the tires on take off!!! I was impressed that the delay was gone. Overall it did close to what the edge did but the edge had a little more. But I didn''t do any adjustments yet. The trans response is better on the edge which I like!!

OK I have pros and cons of each programmer

EDGE

Pros, 1. heads up display with alerts if it detect a problem and the option to change a tune where every you are because it is alway hooked up. 2. the trans has get shift points and shifts strong so there is no power loss. 3. Can adjust tire size ,gears, and speed limiter. 4. Easy for the operator to adjust and program with easy to follow display 5. there is more but they are the same with both programmers

Cons, 1. Still has delay on take off and TM. 2. DOD disable is not available. 3. No adjusting of settings like (timing, etc) 4. Can not import a custom tune

PREDATOR

Pros, 1. DOD disable 2. Delay at take off is gone 3. Adjustment of Timing, rev limiter and etc 4. adjustment of tire size, gears, and speed limiter. 5. Option to get a custom tune 6. I know there is more but I have only went for a 10 minute drive.

Cons, 1. NO Torque Management adjustments which I thought they had. 2. No heads up display 3. No alerts if there is problems 4. Have to store programmer in truck if you want to reprogram the truck somewhere else other then at home. 5. For a guy that is not good at adjusting stuff this is a more difficult unit to use.

Make sure you swing by the Diablo forums. Lots to learn there and lots of help available there. We'll help you get it fined tuned.

I have been looking around a little at the diablo forum this morning. One question I have the v8r10 do I need to update it or is it fine. Or is there more adjustments with the newer versions.

They just released a new crom (9r05). I'm gonna wait a little bit. The last one wouldn't write custome tunes to the vehicle. Since I have a custom tune, that was problem. It sounds, by all reports, it has A LOT of little bugs like that fixed. If you aren't using a custom tune, I'd use it.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
    • Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help someone
    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
