I'm just curious on how some people drive their vehicles and specifically how you shift from reverse to drive. My whole family puts the vehicle in reverse and then as the car is still rolling backwards they shift into drive. I hate it when they do that, because I think that it has to somehow damage the transmission. I actually come to a complete stop and then put my truck in drive.

I try to make a complete stop that way I dont do any damage. Atleast I hope I dont. My girlfriend does not however, and who knows how my guy at the shop does it.

So, a switch hitter huh?

Shifting to drive while still rolling backwards is a driving style to be avoided unless one really likes to work on their transmission.

I do not know it would damage a tranny, but I am not going to try and find out. Safest way is to stop, change gears and carry on.

I'm kinda half n half.

So which radio button do I push?

The reverse brake thing is what adjusts the rear brakes.

Real important with rear shoes.

I'm generally in drive before it stops rolling but I don't slam it in drive while it's moving very fast. I've never had a trans die in any of my vehicles.

I honestly sometimes do both, probally shouldnt but when I am just going out to do errands or whatever I come to a complete stop and then go into drive but if I have a fire call or have to respond to get the ambulance when on duty then I tend to back up and not stop fully and go into drive.

I come to complete stop before shifting to drive, I'm no mechanic just a shade tree, but I wouldn't think it would be healthy for the tranny.

it's not the act of putting the shifter into drive while rolling slowly backwards that kills trannys, it's the stomping the gas right after
