LS6 Heads on a 5.3

I've been looking in the GMPP book lately & noticed a "new" LS6 head that is decked .035" that decreases volume to 63CC.  I'm also looking at the LS1 Hot Cam that has .525 intake/exhaust lift & 112 degrees seperation.  Had the LT4 Hot Cam version of this cam in a '96 Impala SS & it was pretty sweet with a great lope for a new computer car.  Would really like to try a similar thing on the new truck.

I think this combination will work on the 5.3 motors in our trucks since they are basically LS1's but would like to know if anyone out there knows for SURE or has any insight into this swap.

Thanks for your help.

From what i've heard, and don't quote me, what you suggest *should* work.

I know they should bolt on fine, but the displacements are different, and i don't know if they will match in that aspect. You have a 5.3, and the LS6 is a 5.7.

I agree with Mervz.

Mechanically, it should work. As far as the computer controls are concerned, I think you would have to do some reprogramming.

Like others I think they will fit, but I doubt the LS1 hot cam would do you much good. I probably has too much for a 5.3. Actually I would think a stock LS1 cam would work as a hot cam in a 5.3. But don't quote me.

You are better off with the 6.0L head with some minor port work. Even the decked ls6 heads would futher decrease your compression ratio.

The 98' LS1 cam doesn't come close to the LS1 hot cam.

The Hot has a tighter LSA longer duration and higher lift.

I realize that, but it is designed for the flow needs of a 5.7L. I was just thinking that a stock LS1 cam would have plenty of flow for a 5.3 and a the actual hot cam might be over kill.
