Vortec vs Old Style

Does the vortec 350 have the same TBI as the older (95) trucks, or is it TPI.

The reason I'm asking is that a guy I know has a '97 Vortec and the shop wants over ?.00 to change his injectors.

I told him that I thought that Chevy didn't go TPI until the 5.3. ? for replacing 2 injectors is ridiculous!

The Vortec injectors are not the same as the old TBI injectors.  Starting in 96 GM went to Central SFI, that has eight injectors that supply fuel through hoses to poppet valves located in the intake port of the individual cylinders.

Correct me if I am wrong, but TBI is Throttle Body Injection fuel gets injected into something akin to a carburator. TPI is Tunnel Port, or Tuned Port Injection which I believe was injected into the intake manafold above the cyclinders, and Vortec is MPI Multi Point Injection which is injected straight into the cylinders where the injector sits right behind the intake valve.

That's right isn't it, anyone?

Kansas Kid is right but it isn't called central, that was the cpi that used to be available on the V6's.

The current style is actually called sequential fuel injection(sfi).

My mistake on adding the Central in front of the SFI.  I was thinking of the fuel injection unit, instead of the whole system for some reason.
