Truck Is Looking Like A Truck! Just A Couple More Things

Well.. I am finally getting my truck set up the way i want it... I really am trying to get a stereo installed that will link with my bluetooth... I am thinking the JVC double din in dash with the 7" screen. Does anyone have any experience with these? Also I have discovered that I am going to have to switch to the "tow" mirrors.. does anyone have any laying around they want to get rid of.. with the lift and tires.. my mirrors don't cover enough "real estate"!!! And completely off topic.. I am a property inspector, I went to two houses where the A/C was either stolen, or missing a thermostat today.. It is HOT here in AZ.. So I was typing up my report in my truck when I realized that while I IDLE for an hour or so.. MY TRUCK IS IN 8 Cylinder mode!!!! WTF??? Don't you think that while idling in PARK.. it would be safe to kill half the cylinders just to run the accessories???? Does anyone know if you can program this? Thanks, Craig PS.... Isn't my truck starting to look "bad a$$"????

Nope, they are designed to idle in V8 mode. I don't think a V8 would idle very smooth in V4-mode. Besides, it uses very little fuel while idling anyway.Nice truck BTW!!!

Now THAT is NICE!!! Give us some specs man!! By the way, I noticed that the motor remains in 8 cyl mode ideling today while pulled over on the phone. Yes everyone, I pull over while on the cell phone!

Thanks guys!!! J-man good for you for staying off the road while on the phone.. that is why I want a quality bluetooth stereo installed (probably gonna install it myself to save a few bucks) I wonder though, with all the people that have the AFM always idled in 4 cyl mode... how much would that save? even if you had to put up with a small stumble every now and again!!

It has to idle in V8 mode to keep all the cylinder up to temp. There are issues if a cylinder is cold and then fired up and trying to make power, this according to a GM tech.

Also, It feels great to be in the truck I want to be in.. I have been driving around my 94 toyota exended cab 4 cyl for the last couple of years to save on fuel while my "trusty" 96 GMC extended cab 4x4 sat, along with my 94 dodge ram.... I just got sick of it! Plus it is awesome, every time I get gas, or stop somewhere.. someone ALWAYS comments on how nice my truck is. Makes me wish I was still young... and cruisin' the avenue on a saturday night!!! ahhh... memories!!!

Yeah, I know i don't pay 100% attention while on the phone and anyone who says they can is a liar. I ride motorcycles, and more often then you would think I have people swerving into my lane, pulling out in front of me, ect. Get this...they are ALL on their cell phones. As I type this I have this beautiful 3 month old son sleeping next to me in his crib that I want to see grow up....

ANYWAY, back on topic. Like VMaxxine said, it wouldnt be smooth and the amt of fuel you would save would be minimal. Now, in your case, idleing for an hour+ it may help, but most people do not idle that long so maybe why they didnt even think of that. I don't know what to suggest. Do they make a mini AC that plugs into a 12volt outlet? If they do, I would suggest a dual battery set-up and then running one of those. Maybe start the truck every 30 mins for 5 mins at a time to rechare those puppies. Again, not sure if this is possible, just something I would look into.

Now, what lift? Tire size? I dont recognize the drop bracket on the lift so I am having a hard time guessing. I know its not the BDS, Fabtech, or Rancho, so I'm going to say Pro-comp?? 35's I presume...

j-man the quick version of the mods are in the garage section.. I will work on pics and more details when I have some time! Thanks for the compliments... I have always been a GMC man myself... until this year.. I just love the front end of the silverado.. I wouldn't mind installing a HD hood as well.. but that is way down on my list!

OK cool, I think we posted at the same time, but I will check that out. I hear you on driving the truck you want to drive. I have always wanted a full-size truck with a lift, so I am working on that now.

Truck looks great, I really like those steps. (n-fabs, or the Rhino ones?) And those tow mirrors will look awesome.

Ever think about color-matched door handles?

NICE...my endless searching of lifts has paid off! I can now tell the difference between them all. Thus far I am going with the Fabtech 8" with 35's. If I get the itch to go higher before then, I will add come spacers, new rear leafs and go with 37's. A little leary with the 10 bolt and such a heavy tire, but I plan to add 4.88's and a Tru-trac if I go for the 37's. Ahhh, decisions decisions.

Stick with the 35s. 37s will make your IFS cry.
