I just changed out my pump today with a buddy to help and the instructions in this thread. Thanks to the OP for the write up. I knew someone that dropped the tank and it took him most the day. Took us 2 hours and with the new filter install from last weekend I have a new truck again!

Speaking of rust here is the top of my fuel pump from my 2004 Sierra. This was the source of my EVAP code. At least, the pump and level sensor still worked. This is at 130000 miles in the rust belt. All the fuel, vapor, and brake lines were replaced also.
