2000 1500 Z71, 92K miles Check engine light came on. Went to Checker & Autozone since they will check the ODC for free. Neither place could read the ODC & they have different types of readers Their ODC readers could not talk with the truck's computer. Anyone have a clue? other than "take it to the dealer"

2000 would not be OBDII. I believe it can be read, but needs a different device. I have not seen an autostore (e.g. AZ) offer this like they do for OBDII. Try google to look for the device that would be needed and then search for rentals.

That would be news to me. Everytime I went to AZ, they always asked the year of the car and said it must be 2001 or newer. Also, when I explored buying one for my 2001 BMW, I saw the same informaiton pop up about the different readers between a 2000 and 2001 models. Not saying that I'm right, just the information that I have.

Well I just looked it up. All cars and trucks manufactured in the USA 1996 and after are OBD11 compliant. I knew they were just making sure. Sorry.

Thank you for correcting me (I don't like to give out bad information). Maybe it was just BMW's then.

Check your cigarette lighter fuse. It also powers the OBD11 port.

Sure enough, a blown fuse. Back to Autozone to see if they can read the OBD-II port. Thanks

The fuse fixed the OBD-II port. Error code P0327. NOW I have to replace the front anti-knock sensor. Located under the intake manifold...great. Thanks again
