5w40 Full Synthetic Oil On Nbs 08

Hi, I'm using (Shell) 5w40 fully synthetic oil on my truck, it has about 14.000 kms!.

Here in Venezuela I can't find 5w30 as oil cap says!

Any problem with this? is it bad?

GM Venzuela recommend using 15w40 on the user's manual given with the truck, but the oilcap says 5w30.

What should i do?

thank you.

15w40 should work just fine in your weather.

It's much hotter there, and you don't have very harsh winters, so you'll be fine. 5W30 would be too thin. GM was probably too cheap to make a new oil cap print for exported trucks.

So is a myth think about small conducts to pass oil from one part of the enigne to any other? and then the oil can be very viscous and get less lubrication in parts where fines oil susch w30 can pass ?, my engine has only 14k kms!

Sorry for my bad English, I'm not english Spoken.

thanky you.

I dunno what I would trust more, the oil cap that comes with the engine. OR the manual Some guy throws in the glove box at the factory!

His temps in venezuela arent that hot averages 75 to 100 degrees year round. So I would just stick with what you can get. 5w40.

Viscosity that is recommended is due to bearing clearances, not climate conditions. Multi viscosity is recommended for inclement weather. Gen III engines are running much tighter clearances than previous small blacks, plus, the engine internal temperature will be the same if ambient temp is 110 or 40. You should try to find a 30 weight oil. 10-30 or 15-30 would be fine.

i use that oil in my bikes because it has no friction modifiers. dont know how good it is for a car or truck. it is diesel motor oil.

For the people who say the engines are tighter--The new Corvettes comming off the assembly line in Bowlingreen, Ky The ones for the USA market say use 5W30. The ones being shipped to New Zealand have a sticker on the door next to the drivers leg that says use ONLY 5W40. Same engines, same assembly line. Saw this a while back on a tour of the plant..

Have a good one,

So, in one word... should i change my oil, and add a 5w30 I found it in Valvoline one!... I have 14.000 kms do i get any damage in the engine by using 5w40?

Here in venezuela ACDELCO sell 5w40 oils, and there's the oil used in the GMdealer... Is it good?

maybe change it this time for 5W30 and see if you like it better and your truck runs better. Then Make the choice if you keep 5w40 or change to 5w 30

Carlos,

Use the oil that is recommended in the manual. Trucks shipped to Venezuela will be exposed to different environmental factors than USA trucks. You use different fuel mixtures and you have different climate. I would highly suggest you use whatever was suggested in your users manual so that you are not told later on that you used the wrong oil. 15w40 is formulated for warmer climates like Venezuela. The 5w30 that we use it meant to be used in a wider variety of climates, including very cold winters in the norther United States. I would highly suggest you use 15W40 as recommended by the users manual. 5w30 will be okay too, but 15W40 will offer more protection.

Regards,

Al

You must mean me. While I find your method of verifying bearing clearances by recommended viscosity stickers on door panels interesting, I use micrometers and bore gauges.

To the OP, I failed to read your initial post in its entirety. I did not see that the manual recommends 40 weight. Go with what’s printed in the manual. I do not know all the differences in petroleum products per geographical location, but I’m guessing the response above from Texas Al holds merit. Sorry for adding to your confusion with my previous response, I should learn to take more time reading questions before answering.

It was not my recommendation, It was GM who put the sticker and oil requirement on the door. I thought the manufacturer should know what to recommend. I was not making the news, just reporting it.

Have a good one.

hi, i'm so confused with this theme, sorry for it.. ut i'm still needing info.

what shlud i do afater use this 5w40, should i change right now the engine oil? or after i paid for this oil and it's like new (only about 500km) can i wait to almost 5000km and then change it back to 5w30?

I'm using from 1.000 km to the 14.500 i have right know the shell 5w40.
