Ext Cab Vs Crew Cab

I'm trying to convince myself to bite the bullet and buy a new 08 Sierra and can't make up my feeble mind between an extended cab and a crew cab. I'm leaning towards the extended; less money, longer bed and adequate room in the rear. Please advise pros and cons resale etc.

 

Next question. Is there a down side to getting a flex fuel engine? One has it and the identical truck doesn't. No difference in price. I doubt if I'll ever use it but might me nice to have for resale.

from what i've heard the flex fuel pump can handle alot more power,that is if you ever plan on doing that

It really just boils down to whether you want more space in the bed or the ability to carry adults in the back more comfortably. My 05 Crewcab never "looked" quite right to me with the shorty bed. The new crewcab trucks look better but I still like the look of the excab better if you need extra cab space. Regular adults will not like long rides in the excab back seat nearly as much as the crewcab. Most people don't carry much in the bed anyway...

 

I'm a dedicated regular cab truck guy myself. I like the sporty nature of them... but I don't have kids to carry around either.

Well if you are buying, I would ask yourself this, will I need a crew cab in future? kids, the wife, hockey gear haul? might be something to consider if you have it for more than a couple years. I personally like the crew cab just because it is like a car for a backseat.......very practical. However, they dont do a 6.5 or 8ft bed on the 1500 so it would have to be a 2500 or 3500 for me........I would give it some thought, and if you plan to keep it awhile, you might want to do the crew, for other passengers and such, and if you need add a bed extender or cap to fill in more of the bed......... thats my .02

Ultimately, like others have said, it comes down to what's more important for you now and in the future. Do you need passenger space or bed volume? Honestly, by the time you sell it, the difference won't be that big in price. There will always be someone looking for both types so make sure to buy what you are going to need.

Everyone else has brought up good points. But does rear seat room really matter that much to you? You'll never be sitting back there, since it's your truck. And if someone in the back seat complains about not having enough room, just tell them that they get to drive next time.

It's much more difficult to "get some" in the back seat of an extended cab.... my crew cab has PLENTY of room... if you "catch my drift"!!!!!

I was very disapointed after purchasing the 07 to realize just how much less space the 07 has compared to the 99. the 99 had lots more room in her. I should have gone with the Crew Cab, but at the same time I don't want a super long bed so Eh..

The only problem I have in the back seat of my ext cab is I'm taller than the truck is wide.

 

Now I just keep a quilt under my seat to throw in the bed.

I got the crew cab because I'm tall and have the seat all the way back. I looked at an extended cab, but not even my kids had much leg room with the seat all the way back. I can haul all I need in the 5' 8" bed (at least so far).

I just preferred the looks of the ext. cab over the crew cab. There is not a huge difference in price.

so just get the one you like/need the most. If you will have adult back seat passengers,

the crew cab would definately be the better choice.

I rarely carry adults in the back seat, it's mostly for my kids, both girls and small. The reason I wanted a CC is so they could have their own, independant doors. I hate the "suicide" style doors on the Ext cabs. I mostly use my truck for towing, so the 5.9 ft bed is plenty sufficient for my needs. It's big enough to hold my 2 inflated "floaties", cooler and towel bags.

 

This would not have been true until recently though. My first truck (89 reg cab) had an 8' bed and my last truck Ext cab had the 6.5' bed. I used them for building 3 decks, 2 sheds and finishing an entire lower level of my first house. Those days are done for me though. Thanks to my bad back.

A lot of the new crewcabs are really nice looking. I think I just had to get used to the shorter bed look. They don't look awkward to me like my 05 did anymore.

I do agree with you though Jim, reg cabs look FAR better than ext or crew cabs. Just not too practical when you have kids you need to haul.
