Proper Hid Installation/use

I know I've read somewhere that turning HIDs on repeatedly after being "warmed up" can damage the units...so lets think about a scenario.

 

I use my keyless entry to unlock the doors, HID low beams turn on. I then start the truck, the low beams turn off and then turn on again. Can this cause damage to the system after months of use? I can make a delay circuit so that they'll stay on for say 1 minute after the power has been turned off (momentarily when the engine starts) so that power to the lowbeams isn't interrupted every time I start the truck.

 

What do you guys think? Am I going too far with this?

I turned off the headlights for any lock or unlock function with the DIC . I also make it a habit when starting the truck to either turn the knob to the parking lights in the daytime or the headlights in the evening BEFORE starting the truck. It takes only a couple of times to get used to and my HID's only come on when I want them on. Another method is to turn the key very rapidly. This doesn't allow the lights to flicker as they normally would. Restricting their use on lock and unlock is key. Turning them on yourself helps even more.

cool, I didn't realize you could disable the headlamps through the DIC...I need to read my owners manual haha.

Not in the truck right now but I think it is called exit lighting or perimeter lighting or something like that. Daddy, does that sound right?

I do the exact same thing. I've tried to get the wife to do this in our Acadia with no luck. She just thinks I'm being anal about it along with all my other automotive quirks.

I am about to install hid's on my 08 chevy. I'm still waiting on the parts to get hear but i have already pulled out both of my drl fuses under the hood. For your problem i would reprogram the computer(left of the steering wheel on the dash) to not turn on the light when you unlock the truck. I plan on doing this. Dont wanna take any chances of shortening the life of my hid's!
