Another Rc Leveling Question

Okay, I put on the Rough Country leveling today (1.5") and tried the shortcuts I've read on here and didn't loosen anything but the swaybar, but I ran into some potential problems. I couldn't use the supplied bolt on the rear strut mounting because the axle shaft was in the way since I didn't loosen the knuckle or tie rod etc. I used the factory bolts and RC nuts installed facing upwards for axleshaft clearance, but I'm not sure if the factory bolts are long enough to fasten securely. What do youse guys think? (see photo below) Should I start over and tear everything apart as they recommend?

It looks okay, but I would put some thread lock on the bolts to ensure vibrations don't loosen the nuts. For if the nuts came off, the bolts will fall out. Loose nuts always end up causing trouble.

If the full threads of the bolt do not run all the way through the nut, best use longer ones. If they do, then I would also loctite them, since the locks on the nut do not appear to get a good thread bite. One other option is to get a longer bolt, and custom cut the length to stick 1/8" or so above the nut, but still clear the axle.

If you do decide to go the longer bolt route, I would get higher grade bolts than came with the R/C kit.

As for the kit, I love mine....Be sure to check the toe-in afterwards, since it usually will cause the tires to have too much after the lift....I had to turn each tie rod end one full turn to reset it back to specs.

By the way, your kit is a 2" lift kit, even though the spacers are only 1.5" thick.

+1 on the Loose Nuts! :D

Thanks for the advice guys. Never even thought to smear some loctite on,...good idea!

I only added one thick and one thin spacer on each side, so I'm thinking it's a 1.5" total lift height. I tow a boat and haul wood sometimes and don't want it looking too funny. I really like the more balanced look of the truck now. Still have to get an alignment done yet, but the truck drives and handles fine.

I have the 2" kit on mine but I would install the rc bolts and add a washer between the nut and the strut. I have my bolts facing the same way with the rc bolts and have no clearance problems or any issues at all. I have about a year on mine with about 10,000 miles on the kit with no problems.

Yeah, but if he did not use all the spacers, then the r/c bolts facing up will be too long and hit his axle.....He will have to modify them....
