Replacing The Headlight Bulbs

Recommended Posts

Did a search and couldn't come up with a way to replace the headlights on my 2008 Yukon.

I found some instructions to get all 3 bolts loosened. And I was able to move the whole assembly. But could not get my hand behind it to replace the bulb.

How has everyone else done it?? Thanks.

Havent tried yet on my 08 Tahoe. I have heard from many people it is very difficulat. If I remember right you have to loosen or remove the airbox. They have all that room under the hood and they had to make changing headlight bulbs a half day project.

Airbox? I'll take another look. Looks like I can get to the Passenger side from behind. I can probably get to the driver-side from behind if I can figure out how to remove the window washer container.

if you take the 7mm bolt out holding the plastic fender liner in you can get to the 3rd bolt holding the light in alot easier..

you just have to reach in there but you can actually turn the rachet.

and if i remember correctly you dont have to remove the airbox but you do remove some of the screws holding the grille on.

I had all the bolts removed including that one, but I couldn't work the whole assenbly out.

Are you saying I can get to the bulbs from behind the grille?

no the headlight is tucked in behind the grille.

if you take a pic of the headlight ill draw up on paint exaclty what you have to do.

ive done this a couple times before putting in HID's

btw i took the whole headlight out. its easier to do than trying to reach around and put the lights in.

there is a 10mm bolt on the fender, one by the grill and one between the fender that you have to reach in and get.

then it comes right out.

Maybe the 2008's are different. I had all 3 of those bolts off. I was able to move the whole headlight, but couldn't get it out.

I'll get you a pic just in case I am missing something. Thanks.

yes it is tucked behind the grille. they are kind of a pain to get out as a matter of fact the two trucks i put the HID's in had them put in at a different shop before us and actually broke 2 mounting tabs off because they didnt feel like getting to the bolts in between the fender

but these are the bolt yoru have to take out, when you take the light out hold the grill back a little bit and get the edge on top of it and then twist it out.

btw dont be afraid to pull on it.

By taking off the grille bolts, I was able to move the light far enough to get my hand in and change the bulb. That saved me some time and possibly breaking something.

Thanks!!
