Borgeson Steering Shaft

The steering clunk has returned once again on our '05 Silverado 1500 4x4 . This time around, I am thinking about looking for an aftermarket shaft instead of the GM replacements to see if it will last a little longer. Has anyone used the Borgeson shaft long term? Has the clunk and loose feeling returned with that unit over a period of time? Does anyone have another steering shaft other than the Borgeson that they could recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you have your i-shaft greased or replaced? How long after you had it "fixed" did it start clunking again?

I had mine replaced and haven't noticed anything.

Haven't heard of the Borgeson shaft, so I'd be interested in others opinions on that.

Here is the link to the one I am considering.

The original shaft on this truck was greased twice by the dealer under warranty at approximately 7K and then again at just under 10K if I remember correctly. Dealer replaced the shaft at 13.5K and then again somewhere just before the warranty expired ~36K. It's been in so many times for it, I'm loosing track to be honest with you.

It just rolled over 54K last week and it's worse than ever. I have no problem replacing the shaft myself. I'm just looking for something that would be a little more of a long term fix.

says it has a 5 year warranty...i say do it and let me know how it turns out lol mines starting to clunk and shake again

This current GM shaft is just starting to shake a little. But the clunk is bad. The one previous to this one wasn't very noisy, but would almost shake the wheel out of your hands at times.

I really leaning toward giving this Borgeson unit a try here soon. I'll certainly keep everyone up to date on how it goes.

maybe im a cheap a$$ but as long as GM replaces the part for free id plan a visit to them every time it goes bad again.

I understand where you are coming from. But, if I can do a replacement that may have a chance to be a little better that what we've tried in the past, then I'm more than willing to pay for it.
