2008 Silverado Muffler Swap.. Help!

Hi guys,

 

Just baught a new 2008 Silverado 1500 5.3L

 

I was searching but could not find what i needed so here we go.

 

I want to just take the stock muffler out and plunk in a new Flowmaster, but was wondering what size is the piping or has someone already done this and knows what the part number is for this muffler allready. thanks in advance. And im looking at the 40 series.

your local muffler shop should have it in stock, and if they are smart they will know..

Well i just wanted to see if anyone on here would know first before i took the 40 min drive to downtown and find out. But yes im sure they would know.

You may not like that 40 series very much when your truck enters 4cyl. mode. I have heard from some guys that it sounds horrible. I disabled the AFM on my truck before adding a 50 series. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah i think i will be going with a 50 series after all, how does yours sound?

 

And i just need to find out what size the stock exhaust is inlet to the muff and outlet so i can go buy a new muff

Give the exhaust shop a call and see what they have to fit your truck. They should know everything you are asking and if you call, you won't waste the 40 minute drive.

Sounds great. It has a deep aggressive tone when I accelerate. When cruising, it's nice and tame sounding inside the truck. Minimal drone in the cab. Not too sure about the size of the inlet, but I wanna say that the guy at the shop said that mine is 3" in and 3" out. I could be wrong.

Perfect thanks for the help, im pretty sure that it is 3 and 3 thats what i got anyways, did you then go back to the stock exit for the exhaust or did you dump it out infront of the wheel?

I think the stock pipe is 2.75", but a 3" in/out muffler would be the best fit.
