Okay.. on my 2008 Sierra I supposedly have the EZ Lift (PDF) option.

 

My tailgate opens and closes like any other truck tailgate, just that this

one has a lock. What is the best way to see if in fact that is the right

tailgate (or perhaps if there is some spring involved, it is broke).

You should be able to open and close your tailgate with one finger. If not something's broke. It has springs in the tailgate.

The easiest way to tell for sure, if you truly think there's something wrong, is to take it to your service department and ask. That's what the warranty is for.

Look at the left hinge on the tailgate.It should have a rod that goes into the tailgate.I am pretty sure its on the left side.

Its easy to find out............................

Either check for the PDF code on your RPO list in the glovebox or check out this video

of the easy lift gate in action. You can tell right away the difference between it and

the regular gate.

That would be a good idea, around here though they'll tell u they can't duplicate the problem and that there is nothing wrong with the truck. My truck has this option, it comes with the locking tailgate and the other thing I have noticed is that the tailgate feels way lighter than any other tailgate I have closed. It feels way lighter than my 2006 Silverado tailgate.
