I've been looking at different manufactures of lift blocks and some are tapered and some are not, I only want 2" blocks which will lift only 3/4". Is tapered necessary or not??

no you dont need tapered block...you should be JUST fine with straight blocks

I agree. Tapered blocks are generally used with lift springs to correct pinion angle. You don't need that.
