I bought my first truck last week

2000 gmc 2500 lwb 7.4 4x4 ext cab.

I noticed the brake pedal kind of bounced upon inital startup. Tonight afterturning around in my driveway I noticed the pedal dropped almost to the floor and when I released the parking brake the indicator lamp on the dash did not go off.

I pressed the pedal a few times and noticed that I could hear air near the rear of the vehical when the pedal was pressed.

I stopped the truck and got under it with a flashlight and noticed brake fluid leaking from many lines under the truck. and actually making a puddle on the driveway.

I couldnt find the leak(it was dark) but it seemed that the original leak was inside the frame railinfront of the drivers side wheel well.

I noticed many line that had quickly become covered with fluid. I have noticed that there are many complaints with the brakes online and I was wondering if this could be the due to rusty lines.

I am not familiar with the abs system on gm 4x4's but any diagrams or expert advice would help.thanks

Welcome to the site from North Carolina. I had this problem with my other truck... One day it was fine and didnt really notice any problems with the brakes until my neighbor had it sitting in his driveway and there was a puddle of brake fluid under it.

Welcome to the forum  . I had the same issue with my '99. I just replaced all the brake lines. They were nasty, so I did them all.

are the brake lines a dealer only part?

also what was the cost of the parts?

did you do it yourself or did you have it done?

Only wondering how difficult and how much time it would take to tackel the project. I was a tech @ dodge so I have mechanical skills but I don't know if I have the time to do it myself.

A friend of mine did it for me, while I was at work. He bends his own brake lines. Pretty cool actually. I think he charged me around $ 100 to do the all of them. :)

Welcome to the site! :)

I did my own rear lines on my '91 and it only took about an hour and a half or so. It's really not that bad, just get the right tools and take your time. They lines need to be out of the way but they do not have to look just like the original lines so don't even waste your time trying to make them exactly the same.\

Welcome!!

The brake lines are not a "dealer only" item,Actually most brake lines today are not available from the dealer "pre-bent",You have to buy it in a bulk roll and cut, bend, and flare as needed.

BTW.....Where you at in N.C.?
