ok well today i wake up to a quite large puddle of anitfreeze on the garage floor.intake manifold gasket it junk.

i was originally going to replace a cv shaft seal. so i have to drop the entire front diff.

now looking under there it appears i also have a rear main seal junk. im hoping that it is just the intake manifold leak, leaking down on the back of the oil pan.

i dont know how this day could get any better?

oh and did i mention i dont have any money to fix this stuff?

That sucks Riggs... 4x4 trucks can get "needy" over time. Are you sure your coolant leak isn't just a water punp or hose leak?

Hope you get it all worked out.

and the weird thing is, my friend beats the **** out of his truck exactly like mine with the same miles and he doesn't have a single problem. i mean every single round-a-bout he drifts all the way around on dry pavement and totally beats the hell out of it.

i baby the hell out of my truck, i drive like a grandpa.

Riggs,

The complaints you are describing are completely normal issues on the GMT 400 Trucks

Intake gaskets-can be done in about 3-4 hours, maybe $45 in parts

Front diff seals-you DO NOT need to drop the front diff, maybe $25 in parts??

If you ever get seriously sick and tired of that truck...just take a few hours, drive it down here to Kenosha, and we'll work something out...

Yea like the last guy said, dont get all worked up over minor leaks. I had a 95 Yukon 2 door. absolutely loved that truck. had a few leaks. front dif leaks. valve cover on the passenger side rear. oil leaks are really common and unless there are puddles forming screw it. its not a Ferrari or a show car its a 4X4 truck. the coolant leak should be fixed because if its leaking its also loosing pressure and the coolant system needs pressure to work properly. Although my last truck was a 91 GMC van work truck and it seeped antifreeze for the intake manifold the entire 3 years I owned it. Biggest problem was smelling antifreeze whenever I got out of the truck. You should try owning a 30 year old Harley. Youd get over having a heart attack over leaks. M.R.

Dude I dont know if my truck has had these problems yet but you know you wait it out and save some money get it fixed and you wont have to worry about it till you get another truck...

It used to be that the older trucks would need a lot of up keep just to get to 100k. But once you get these issues resolved it will be good as new!

And my motto is if it aint makin a puddle under the truck when it sits, dont worry about it... Unless of course you got oil dripping over the starter and it gets shorted out from time to time.. Then you want to pay attention to them type leaks... Rear/front mains arent that bad just time consuming..

Both of the 84 trucks that I had I bought the felpro full motor gasket kit for like 50 bucks and put that thing on some stands for the weekend laid under that thing with some music playing and all the Dr.Peppers I could drink and I was in heaven... Nothing like laying under your truck for TLC...

The only bad memory I have of those days is this was when I was workin 3rd and I would always fall asleep under the truck and wake up like WTF I have got nothing done!!! :loser:

I babied my 80 GMC and i ended up replacing nearly the whole truck in the three years i owned it, this 98 i drive it like a truck, and sometimes like a redlight racer, its been rock solid... funny how that works....

well today i got the front differential completely out and sitting on the workbench

i also have the motor completely ripped apart and the intake sitting on the bench as well.

i cant figure out how to take the bearing out of the diff though. there seems to be a clip sort of thing holding it in.

i also found out that my block heater is leaking as well.

SO MUCH WORK. i just hope i fix everything and dont cause any more problems by undoing everything. plus my throttle body i cleaned and looks brand spanking new. plus i also get to change out my antifreeze. i hate working on my truck i would just like to drive it.
